Overview

The Medical Specialties Service Specialist provides new patient scheduling coordination and administrative support to the Department of Medicine clinics. The incumbent is responsible for delivering excellent patient centered care while providing information regarding services to patients, hospital, staff and community health care provides. Appointment scheduling, insurance verification, referral processing, procedure scheduling, registration of new patients, and referral of patients to faculty physicians based on knowledge of scheduling protocols and University of Florida Physicians policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma and three (3) years of relevant experience required; or
  • Associate’s degree and one (1) year of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree with no additional experience required.

Two (2) years of clerical or customer service experience is strongly preferred, ideally within a healthcare or hospitality-related environment that utilizes a concierge-style service model.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and a variety of software applications and/or proprietary systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain professional and perform effectively under stress, particularly when responding to emergency, critical, or unusual situations.
  • Ability to discuss financial matters with patients in a professional, respectful, and sensitive manner.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to maintain a high level of patient focus while exercising sound judgment and making appropriate evaluations and decisions.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation

Employees in this position will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose.

Note: A frequent driver is defined as an employee who uses a personal or Shands automobile for business purposes:

  • At least once per day;
  • At least five individual trips per week; or
  • An average of more than 150 miles per week while performing job duties.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Successfully complete the Customer Service Certification requirements in accordance with the UFJHI course schedule.
  • Maintain Customer Service Certification through the required annual assessment.
