Marketing Technology Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

As a Marketing Technology Engineer, you will own Hello Alice's marketing technology stack. Embedded on the marketing team, you keep our email systems running reliably, ship website and CMS changes without waiting on an engineering queue, and apply AI across the stack to do work that historically required a dedicated engineer.

This role reflects how Hello Alice builds: technical and AI capability embedded in operating teams, not isolated in a specialist function. You are a marketer's engineer and an engineer's marketer. You understand marketing systems, are comfortable in code, and treat AI as a daily working tool.

You will also help lead our evaluation of in-house alternatives to parts of the stack, beginning with email. Reporting into marketing, you work closely with engineering on shared standards and integrations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing Systems Operations

• Email Platform Ownership: Own email operations in Salesforce Marketing Cloud: sends, journeys, automations, segmentation, data hygiene, and deliverability. Maintain the QA discipline required for systems that reach nearly 1.5 million business owners.
• Stack Administration & Integration: Administer the stack end-to-end, including integrations among the ESP, CMS, analytics, and the core platform. Keep data flows trustworthy and hold marketing systems to the same security, privacy, and accessibility standards as the rest of the platform.

Website & Campaign Delivery

• Marketing Website Development: Ship website changes with marketing associates, working directly in our headless CMS (Payload) and in code, so routine changes land in days, not sprints. Manage content models and the editorial experience so associates can self-serve routine content work.
• Campaign Enablement: Build the segments, dynamic content, forms, and measurement that campaigns depend on. Turn recurring requests into reusable, self-service capabilities.

Applied AI & Platform Evolution

• AI-Powered Marketing Operations: Apply AI across the stack to automate operations, generate and review code, and find leverage the team has not thought of yet. Prioritize by measurable gains in quality, capacity, speed, or cost, within Hello Alice's AI standards and governance.
• Build-vs-Buy Evaluation: Evaluate and prototype in-house alternatives to parts of the stack, starting with email. Ensure build-vs-buy decisions honestly account for deliverability, compliance, and operational burden alongside cost.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & CAPABILITIES

• Marketing Systems Fluency: Typically 3 to 5 years of hands-on work with production marketing systems, such as an ESP, a CMS, or the data flows between them. You may be an engineer who has built for marketing teams or a marketing operator expanding into code; both paths work. Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience is a plus, not a prerequisite.
• Technical Range: Working comfort in code: HTML/CSS, plus enough JavaScript/TypeScript and SQL to build and debug with AI assistance rather than hand work off. An understanding of headless CMS architecture and experience making production website changes.
• Demonstrated AI Fluency: Current, practical use of AI in real work. We will ask you to show something you have automated or built.
• Operational Judgment: The discipline to run systems others depend on: QA habits, deliverability awareness, and knowing what not to touch on send day.
• Cross-Functional Communication: Ability to translate between marketing intent and technical implementation, working effectively with associates and engineers alike.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Hands-on experience with Payload or a comparable headless CMS (Contentful, Sanity, Strapi).
• Experience with email infrastructure beyond the ESP layer, including migrations or build-vs-buy assessments.
• Experience working in a shared codebase with an engineering team, including version control and code review.
• Familiarity with CRM, customer lifecycle, and digital acquisition systems.
• Experience building accessible digital products, particularly for economically or historically underserved communities.
• Experience in a mission-driven, venture-backed, or resource-constrained growth-stage company.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this role is $130,000 to $160,000, plus benefits and stock options. Placement within the range reflects experience and demonstrated capability.
