The Opportunity

This position is field based and works with the Abbott Diabetes Care Division.  We’re focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.  As the Manager Stakeholder Relations, you’ll have the chance to lead and execute Western Canada’s stakeholder engagement strategy, translating regional priorities into impactful plans that help shape policy, strengthen key partnerships and support business growth for Abbott Diabetes Care.

What You’ll Do

Drive market access strategies that advance the Diabetes Division's business objectives across Canada by:

  • Developing and executing market access strategies to secure and optimize coverage, reimbursement, and funding for ADC products across public and private healthcare systems.

  • Building and maintaining strategic relationships with public payors, government stakeholders, HTA organizations, healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders (KOLs), patient advocacy groups, and other influencers to support ADC's objectives and strengthen its position as a trusted healthcare partner.

  • Partnering with commercial, medical, marketing, and global market access teams to ensure payor and market access perspectives are integrated into the Diabetes Division's product strategies, evidence generation plans, and commercialization activities.

  • Monitoring and assessing reimbursement, HTA, market access, and health policy developments across Canada to identify risks and opportunities and provide strategic recommendations that support ADC's growth objectives.

  • Serving as the Diabetes Division's subject matter expert in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) by evaluating reimbursement decisions, interpreting policy trends, and developing strategies to optimize patient access and mitigate business impact.

  • Developing innovative value propositions and funding strategies that demonstrate the clinical, economic, and system value of ADC products and support differentiated reimbursement pathways for new technologies.

  • Leading strategic planning and stakeholder engagement initiatives that align organizational priorities with evolving healthcare system needs and improve patient access to ADC innovations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant filed such as Public Policy, HTA, Clinical Epidemiology, Health Economics, Political Science, Communications, Business Administration or Healthcare Management.

  • Master’s Degree or PhD (preferred): Public Policy, Health Economics, Clinical Epidemiology, HTA, Business Administration (MBA), or a healthcare-related field to demonstrate deeper understanding of both public and policy and the healthcare landscape.

  • Additional Certifications (optional but beneficial): Professional certifications in stakeholder management, public affairs, or government relations. 

  • Minimum five plus years of experience.

  • Proven track record in stakeholder relations, government relations, public affairs, or external affairs within the healthcare, medical device, or pharmaceutical industry.

  • Candidates should have demonstrated success in working with key external stakeholders like government officials, HTA bodies, healthcare professionals and patient associations groups.

  • Strong understanding of public policy, HTA, and regulatory environments.  Experience engaging with government policy makers and advocacy organizations is critical. 

  • Strategic relationship-building: significant experience in building and maintaining long term professional relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Ability to work under pressure and act with urgency: demonstrated success in working in fast-paced environments as responding to urgent matters and managing evolving priorities are crucial.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills: proven ability to develop high-quality presentations, craft clear messaging, and communicate effectively with both external and internal stakeholders, including senior leadership.

  • Project management and resource oversight: experience in managing external agencies or consultants, budgets, and multistakeholder projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

  • Healthcare industry knowledge: familiarity with the healthcare ecosystem at a national or provincial level, particularly with payers, healthcare providers, reimbursement, and market access frameworks. Previous experience working within a pharmaceutical, medical device or biotechnology company is highly preferred.

  • Proven proactive work ethic: highly motivated self-starter with experience working in roles that require a high level of proactivity, providing regular updates and ensuring alignment with the organization’s objectives without needing to be asked.

  • PC literate including Word, PowerPoint, Excel skills.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~25%+).

  • This position supports Western Canada.

  • Proven leadership skills.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $120,000.00 to $168,000.00 CAD. The salary range provided applies to Canada only and does not apply to any other locations outside of Canada.
