The Maintenance Support Manager acts as a senior technical expert, deploying to strategic sites to diagnose complex equipment issues and restore performance. They provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams and translate field findings into scalable maintenance standards.
About the Role
This role is the most senior technical expert within the Whistle Express maintenance organization. As an individual contributor, the Maintenance Support Manager is deployed to the company’s most strategic, complex, and high-impact maintenance projects. This role works hands-on at sites to diagnose issues, restore equipment performance, strengthen reliability, and develop practical solutions that can be scaled across the organization. While the role does not lead people, it provides technical direction, field expertise, and trusted guidance to Maintenance, Operations, and other cross-functional partners.

Diagnose complex, recurring, or high-impact equipment issues and implement durable corrective actions
Perform field-based troubleshooting, repair, commissioning, and optimization of car wash systems and related equipment
Lead the technical workstream for major equipment failures, site recoveries, retrofits, conversions, new openings, and other critical initiatives
Partner with site teams and Operations leaders to stabilize equipment performance, reduce downtime, and improve the customer experience
Identify root causes, document findings, and translate field learnings into repeatable maintenance standards, procedures, and preventive actions
Serve as a technical resource to maintenance teams by providing guidance, troubleshooting support, and practical knowledge transfer without direct people-management responsibility
Evaluate equipment performance, repair history, parts usage, and maintenance data to identify systemic risks and improvement opportunities
Collaborate with vendors, manufacturers, Engineering, Safety, Training, and Operations to resolve technical issues and support effective implementation
Maintain clear project documentation, communicate progress and risks, and provide recommendations to maintenance and business leaders
Promote safe work practices and ensure all technical work complies with company standards, manufacturer requirements, and applicable regulations
Travel to Whistle Express locations as business needs require, with significant time spent working directly in the field
What You’ll Bring
7+ years of progressive maintenance experience supporting complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, controls, or automated equipment systems
Advanced technical knowledge of car wash equipment or comparable multi-system automated environments
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex failures, determine root causes, and complete effective repairs in the field
Experience supporting major equipment installations, retrofits, site openings, recoveries, or reliability-improvement projects
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and equipment specifications
Strong project execution, organization, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills
Ability to work independently, make sound technical decisions, and operate effectively in urgent or high-impact situations
Proficiency with maintenance management systems, reporting tools, and standard business technology
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively to company sites
Ability to perform the physical requirements of hands-on field maintenance work, with or without reasonable accommodation
How You’ll Succeed
Technical mastery: Brings deep expertise across equipment systems and is trusted with the organization’s most complex technical challenges
Hands-on execution: Works directly at sites, stays close to the equipment, and follows issues through to sustainable resolution
Root-cause thinking: Looks beyond the immediate repair to identify patterns, risks, and long-term corrective actions
Ownership and urgency: Responds decisively to critical needs and maintains accountability for results
Practical influence: Builds alignment through credibility, clear recommendations, and knowledge sharing rather than formal authority
Operational partnership: Balances technical requirements with site priorities, safety, cost, uptime, and customer impact
