Your job

As the Machine Learning Engineer Technical Fellow on Marketplace Efficiency, your technical leadership will play an integral role in improving how we manage our marketplace. The team's focus is to balance the concerns of jobseekers, employers, and overall marketplace health through pricing, bidding, ranking, and market design. As the most senior MLE on the team, you will set the bar for quality and rigor in how we manage the tradeoffs in our marketplace through metric definition, experiments, and monitoring. You will partner with Product, Software Engineering, and Data Scientists to design systems, models, and experiments that impact millions of jobseekers and employers. The labor market is also undergoing large-scale changes due to AI and macro shifts, so this role has a unique opportunity to impact how Indeed's marketplace adapts to meet the challenge.

You will be able to work from anywhere within the United States for this role.

Who you are

• Define the marketplace objective and guardrail metrics, and improve the experimentation methodology used to trade off jobseeker, employer, and marketplace-health outcomes.
• Have a strong point of view on how our machine learning systems could improve, and work with the team to do so
• Partner with senior leadership to develop and influence long-term marketplace strategy
• Mentor and support the growth of machine learning engineers and data scientists
• Contribute hands-on when needed by diving into code or data and sharing best practices across the organization

Who we are

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field and a minimum of 15 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience; or a PhD with  8 years experience
• Experience running large scale causal experiments, ideally in a two-sided marketplace 
• Experience building ranking, recommendation, or matching systems at scale
• Experience guiding through influence and delivering predictable results in complex organizations
• Proven ability to translate product direction into machine learning architecture and strategy
• Effective and inclusive verbal and written communication to a variety of different audiences
• Experience coding in Java, C, C++, or Go in backend development; Tensorflow, PyTorch, Sagemaker, or equivalent ML Platforms for model development; and Python or R for data analytics
• Experience with SQL Databases such as Presto, AWS Athena, Postgres, BiqQuery, or equivalent
