The Linux System Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, performance, and availability of Red Hat server environments supporting Bell Canada.
The role performs server patching, updates, upgrades, performance tuning, security hardening, vulnerability management, system monitoring, incident response, infrastructure changes, and automation. The position also provides after-hours on-call support and participates in disaster recovery and business continuity activities to support stable and resilient server operations.
Working as part of a global IT team, the Linux System Administrator collaborates with network, database, application, and other technology teams to support infrastructure integration, resolve operational issues, and continuously improve server administration processes through automation and effective technical documentation.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
|
- Administer and maintain Red Hat servers, including patching, updates, upgrades, and performance tuning, to support stable, reliable, and efficient server operations.
- Provide after-hours on-call support and respond to system incidents and alerts to minimize service disruption and restore normal operations promptly.
- Implement and manage infrastructure changes, including appropriate documentation, testing, and execution, to support controlled changes and minimize operational risk.
- Perform server security hardening and vulnerability assessments and respond to security incidents to strengthen infrastructure security and maintain established security practices.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability using appropriate monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve potential operational issues.
- Collaborate with network, database, application, and other IT teams to support seamless infrastructure integration, troubleshooting, and technology operations.
- Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning and testing to support system recovery and operational resilience in the event of an outage.
- Automate system administration activities using Python, Ansible, Bash, and applicable scripting technologies to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Create and maintain system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting documentation to support knowledge sharing, operational consistency, and effective issue resolution.
- Maintain knowledge of current technologies and trends related to server administration, security, and operations to support continuous improvement of infrastructure management practices.

Educational Qualification/s
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
Preferred
- Relevant Red Hat certifications, such as:
- RHCSA
- RHCE
- Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform certifications
- Certifications related to Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration
- Automation-related certifications
- OpenStack-related certifications
- Enterprise Linux infrastructure management certifications
- VMware certifications are considered an advantage.
- ITIL certifications are considered an advantage.
Professional Qualification/s
Required
- At least 3 years of Server Administration experience specializing in Red Hat Server platforms.
- At least 3 years of experience with virtualization technologies, including VMware vSphere, VMware vCenter, and Red Hat OpenStack.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with scripting languages and automation tools, including PowerShell and Python.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routing.
Preferred
- Experience supporting a 24/7 operational environment.
- Experience managing RHEL and other Linux distributions.
- Experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and Red Hat Satellite.

Work Schedule:
- 24x7 Rotational Support - Must be amenable to be assigned to any of the shifts below:
- Morning: 5AM-2PM PHT
- Mid: 12PM-9PM PHT
- Night: 8PM-5AM PH
On-Call Requirements:
- Occasional overtime and on-call support may be required based on operational or project needs
