Title and Summary
Lead Platform Engineer, HP Nonstop and Infrastructure Platforms
Job Description Summary
The Lead Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and modernizing resilient infrastructure platforms that support Mastercard’s critical processing applications and customer connectivity services. This role provides deep technical expertise across HP Nonstop environments, infrastructure software, communications services, file transfer platforms, and distributed systems while contributing to broader platform engineering practices such as automation, secure configuration, release reliability, system resilience, and operational efficiency.
This individual contributor role partners closely with development, operations, security, and infrastructure teams to support complex implementations, troubleshoot production issues, improve platform stability, and ensure infrastructure solutions meet performance, availability, compliance, and business continuity requirements. The role also contributes to platform modernization by applying automation, scripting, infrastructure-as-code practices, CI/CD concepts, and repeatable engineering patterns where appropriate.
Role
• Design, implement, configure, maintain, and support HP Nonstop infrastructure, communications server software, file transfer platforms, and related systems software supporting critical business applications.
• Establish, modify, and support customer connectivity, including configuration of new connections, updates to file transfer software, and changes required to support evolving customer and application needs.
• Provide advanced problem determination and resolution for infrastructure, communications server, customer connectivity, file transfer, and distributed systems issues.
• Partner with development, operations, security, and infrastructure teams to support implementations, incident resolution, release activities, disaster recovery, and platform reliability objectives.
• Apply platform engineering practices to improve scalability, resilience, performance, security, and operational efficiency across assigned infrastructure services.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance scripts, tools, automation, and repeatable processes that reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and support reliable infrastructure operations.
• Support CI/CD and controlled release practices by assisting with deployment planning, implementation readiness, release verification, rollback planning, and post-release validation.
• Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and configuration management practices where applicable to improve standardization, auditability, and repeatability of platform changes.
• Support containerized, distributed, or microservices-based application environments by partnering with application and platform teams on connectivity, reliability, monitoring, and infrastructure dependencies.
• Analyze security, compliance, and operational requirements to ensure infrastructure solutions align with internal standards, audit expectations, disaster recovery needs, and risk management practices.
• Create and maintain accurate technical documentation, operational procedures, implementation plans, troubleshooting guides, and cross-training materials.
• Support business continuity and disaster recovery testing, including preparation, coordination, validation, and follow-up actions for assigned areas of responsibility.
• Serve as a key technical contributor, providing guidance to peers, operations teams, and development partners on platform capabilities, issue resolution, implementation planning, and operational best practices.
All About You
• Demonstrated experience supporting HP Nonstop environments, including operating system concepts, communications server software, file transfer platforms, and related infrastructure technologies.
• Experience designing, implementing, maintaining, or supporting reliable infrastructure services in complex enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts, including availability, resiliency, performance, fault tolerance, monitoring, and operational support.
• Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure engineering concepts, including scalable platform design, resilience, security, and cost-aware infrastructure operations.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices, release automation, deployment validation, and controlled implementation processes.
• Experience with scripting, programming, automation, or tooling used to improve infrastructure support, configuration consistency, monitoring, or operational efficiency.
• Understanding of Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, or automation frameworks used to standardize and manage infrastructure environments.
• Familiarity with container platforms, orchestration concepts, or application platform services that support scalable and portable application deployment.
• Understanding of microservices concepts and the infrastructure dependencies required to support independently deployable services.
• Ability to identify, analyze, and document security, compliance, audit, and operational requirements for infrastructure platforms.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure, connectivity, and platform issues quickly and completely.
• Ability to partner effectively with vendors, development teams, operations teams, security teams, internal departments, and management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical procedures and explain complex issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to operate independently in complex situations, contribute to broader platform engineering goals, and informally coach or support others.
