[Japan] Senior Accountant

Introduction

Our business is expanding quickly, and we are scaling the finance function accordingly.
Currently, we are looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant who can own the monthly close, support audit/tax compliance, and help build the foundational processes required for a high-growth startup environment.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys “building while running” — executing with precision while continuously improving workflows.

Role & responsibilities:

You will drive accurate and timely financial reporting for all entities and help establish scalable accounting / management reporting processes.
In a fast-paced startup setting, success means delivering both speed and accuracy, proactively identifying gaps, and implementing practical solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Depending on your experience, you will own and support the following areas:

Financial Accounting / Closing

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process for all entities.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and closing schedules
• Manage day-to-day accounting operations (AP/expenses/payments/cash activities as needed)
• Improve efficiency and shorten close timelines through process design and standardization

Budgeting / Forecasting / Financial Modeling

• Support annual budget planning and rolling forecasts
• Create and maintain financial models (P&L / cash forecast / headcount planning, etc.)
• Provide insights and structured reporting to support management decision-making

Cost Accounting / Operational Finance Foundation

• Help establish basic cost accounting processes and cost allocation logic
• Build finance “infrastructure” (templates, SOPs, workflow rules) suited for a scaling startup

Audit Support

• Support external audits: prepare schedules, evidence, and respond to audit inquiries
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external auditors to resolve issues efficiently

Tax Compliance Support

• Support tax compliance processes in collaboration with external tax advisors

Prepare required documentation/data for corporate tax, consumption tax, withholding tax, etc.

Desired Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications (Must Have)

• 5+ years of accounting experience in Japan (or equivalent)
• Solid experience owning monthly closing as the main person in charge
• Experience supporting audits (preparing documents, responding to questions, etc.)
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, financial analysis)
• Business-level English communication skills (both written and verbal) to collaborate with global stakeholders (U.S. / India teams, auditors, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

• Startup / high-growth company experience
• Budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling experience
• Cost accounting experience (especially related to hardware/manufacturing)
• Building and maintaining scalable finance processes and documentation
• Experience working in an international / cross-border environment (subsidiary reporting, consolidation, etc.)
• Experience in the semiconductor industry (or related deep-tech / hardware industry)
