We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Professional Liability (PL), within the Casualty Treaty department, to join our team. In this strategic role, you will be responsible for establishing our PL business plan, strategic priorities, underwriting and management and expanding portfolio of PL treaties, ensuring profitability and long-term growth. This position requires deep expertise in casualty and/or professional liability insurance markets, risk assessment, and financial analysis.
As Head of PL, you will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders, including cedents, brokers, and actuarial teams to develop tailored reinsurance solutions. You will also evaluate the resource needs for the new LOB and suggest improvements as needed. You will also play a critical role in market development, risk management, and portfolio optimization.
How You Will Contribute:
Lead underwriter for expanded presence in PL market and develop strategic entrance to additional PL LOBs. Coordinate risk appetite by class and develop targeted business development strategy.
Represent Waypoint within the reinsurance market as Head of PL including establishing broker and client strategies for measured growth as new LOB.
Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal professional liability reinsurance treaties, assessing risk exposures, pricing, and terms.
Develop and implement underwriting standards and best practices to maintain portfolio profitability.
Manage a portfolio of professional liability reinsurance treaties, ensuring alignment with profitability and growth objectives.
Conduct in-depth portfolio analysis to identify opportunities for optimization and diversification.
Assess and manage treaty-related risks, developing and executing effective risk mitigation strategies.
Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and underwriting best practices.
Skills & Experience to be Successful:
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, actuarial science, or a related field.
Extensive experience (20+years preferred) in casualty and professional liability reinsurance underwriting.
Management experience in developing a PL portfolio and overseeing all PL UW aspects.
In-depth knowledge of casualty/PL insurance products and underwriting principles.
Exceptional negotiation and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
Pay Range
$350,000 - $450,000 AnnualThe pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
