Job Description Summary:

Position Responsibilities

• Assist in obtaining family and medical history and counsels patients and/or families in cases of genetic disorders or birth defects.
• Participate in shadowing opportunities to observe genetic counseling sessions and better understand patient interaction.
• Coordinates and researches all insurance coverage for genetic testing for patients. Researching the best tests based on patient’s insurance coverage. Prepares letters of medical necessity.
• Assists in the collection families in understanding genetic disorders in their families; probable course of the disorder, available management strategies, medical recommendations from the geneticist and recurrence risks.
• Documents in patient charts and develops follow-up recommendations for patient; documents cases and maintains appropriate records, ensuring confidentiality.
• Help manage and organize patient medical records, genetic testing reports, educational and related programs, and available resources as appropriate.
• Support post-clinic work, including uploading results, coordinating family variant testing and ensuring that all relevant information is properly recorded.
• Contribute to side projects such as the development of new smart phrase template or improving clinic workflows.
• Provide regular updates and feedback on the tasks and projects assigned. Engage in reflective learning by discussing experiences and challenges with supervisors and other team members.
