Frontier Trust & Governance Lead

The Frontier Transformation Framework helps our customers become Frontier Firms: organizations where autonomous agents execute work continuously under human oversight. In that model, governance is the backbone, not the brake: it is the structure that lets teams move fast precisely because the rails are sound. Governance designed at deployment drifts out of date within months, and because a Frontier Firm coordinates autonomous agents rather than people, the trust-and-governance backbone must be heavier, not lighter. The Frontier Transformation team is how the Microsoft Frontier Company, the organization this role sits within, delivers this: a small, senior human-agent team in which each member carries one of the Framework's eight capabilities into the customer, directs a set of digital co-workers to deliver at a scale headcount alone could not.

We are seeking a Frontier Trust & Governance subject matter expert to establish the frameworks, policies, and control systems that let AI operate safely, ethically, and at enterprise scale. In this role, you will design and operationalize the agent governance framework across intake, runtime, and change; own the guardrails, the control plane, and the baseline-before-build readiness checks; and balance innovation velocity with responsible AI, regulatory compliance, and the customer's risk tolerance.

You will help customers establish the governance, security, identity, data protection, and assurance capabilities required to operate AI and autonomous systems safely at enterprise scale.

This is a role for people who can hold both the policy and the technical control plane in their heads, who can translate emerging AI regulation into working guardrails, and who are energized by making autonomy safe rather than slow. You will work directly with the customer's risk, compliance, legal, security, and business leaders alongside Business Architects, Engineers, and Value leads, and you will transfer skills the customer's risk and compliance officers/owners so that governance is owned after your engagement ends. Core Responsibilities

Required Qualifications / Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Risk Management or a related field, AND 10+ years of experience in risk management, compliance, security, or governance; OR Master's Degree in a relevant field AND 8+ years of such experience; OR equivalent experience.
• Proven experience designing and operationalising enterprise-scale AI governance, security, risk, and compliance capabilities, including governance operating models, accountability frameworks, and executive oversight structures for technology transformation initiatives.
• Deep understanding of AI, agentic AI, and autonomous system risks, including model, data, identity, security, privacy, compliance, resilience, and Responsible AI considerations.
• Experience balancing innovation velocity with appropriate governance and organizational risk tolerance.
• Experience designing governance and security guardrails for AI solutions, including identity and access management, data protection, threat protection, monitoring, auditability, and policy enforcement.
• Executive communication skills, including board-level risk reporting.
• Experience leading cross-functional governance programmes involving business, legal, compliance, security, technology, and executive stakeholders.
• Ability to work directly with senior stakeholders to define policy and operationalize controls.
• Experience defining governance operating models, decision-rights frameworks, ownership structures, governance councils, and executive reporting mechanisms.
• Executive presence and stakeholder influence, with the credibility to advise C-level, risk, security, legal, and business leaders and align them on governance, security, and AI strategy.
• Ability to translate complex AI risks, options, and trade-offs into concise executive briefings, decision papers, and points of view that enable informed decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AI/ML governance frameworks and Responsible AI programs.
• Background in regulated industries such as Financial Services, Healthcare, or Government.
• Knowledge of major AI governance and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act, Microsoft Responsible AI Standard).
• Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Agent 365, Entra, Purview, Defender, and Azure security and compliance tooling.
• Experience governing AI agents, Copilots, and autonomous systems at enterprise scale
• Experience working with regulators, auditors, governance councils, and executive oversight bodies to operationalise AI governance and compliance.
• Experience transferring governance practice and tooling to a client's own risk and compliance function.
