An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced fleet maintenance professional to join Downer as the Fleet Maintenance Network Manager Heavy Vehicle - AU.

This role can be based anywhere in Australia, with flexible working arrangements available.

Reporting to the Fleet Maintenance Manager External - ANZ, this role is responsible for managing Downer's Australian heavy vehicle maintenance supplier network, ensuring safe, compliant, reliable and cost-effective maintenance outcomes across the fleet.

Working closely with suppliers, OEMs, Fleet Managers and operational stakeholders, you will drive supplier performance, improve repair quality, manage maintenance costs and deliver strong customer outcomes. This role combines technical expertise, commercial acumen and stakeholder management to ensure fleet assets remain safe, available and fit for purpose. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage supplier relationships across OEMs, dealer networks, workshops and maintenance providers.
  • Drive supplier performance through service reviews, audits, quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure maintenance activities meet Downer standards, legislative requirements and Zero Harm expectations.
  • Monitor fleet reliability, downtime, defects and maintenance performance across the heavy vehicle fleet.
  • Lead investigations and corrective actions relating to repair quality, recurring failures and service delivery issues.
  • Analyse maintenance spend, supplier performance and operational data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Review supplier invoices and ensure compliance with financial controls and DFA requirements.
  • Support annual asset planning, lifecycle management and fleet optimisation activities.
  • Deliver timely reporting and insights to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and stakeholders to ensure positive service outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, compliance, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Promote Downer's Zero Harm culture across suppliers and maintenance partners

 

What You'll Bring

  • Mechanical Trade qualification or tertiary qualification in Engineering, Fleet Management, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience managing heavy vehicle maintenance operations, workshops or supplier networks.
  • Strong understanding of fleet maintenance, asset lifecycle management and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing supplier performance, contracts and service level agreements.
  • Commercial and financial acumen, including maintenance spend analysis and cost control.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience using fleet management systems, telematics and maintenance platforms.
  • A customer-focused approach and commitment to safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement
