FE Team Lead

Job Summary

Team Leads are responsible for the direct management of an Ethixbase Software Development team.  This responsibility includes the definition and enforcement of agreed processes, ensuring the correctness and quality of produced software, estimation and tracking of time within the team, communication, and responses back out to the business to open queries and standard line management duties (leave approval, appraisals, recruitment and so on). Strong collaboration with vendors and wider internal and external stakeholders is required. 

While being a management role, incumbents are also expected to contribute to the product as a Software Engineer, splitting their time therefore between leadership and technical output.  In this latter regard they would be expected to adhere to the Senior Software Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Develop Software applications and features and coordinate team efforts to develop them, using the agreed (Agile) processes, systems, and technologies, in line with designs and specifications passed down through the Product Owner office(s). This should be done to a high standard minimising possible defect, highlighting ambiguity at the time it is identified and with appropriate peer review to avoid downstream issues. 
• Estimate and track the time taken to make selected changes, provide estimates for proposed work, and log time to assess the accuracy of previous estimates, and allow the removal of bias. Ensure that mid and long term plans and roadmaps are in place. 
• Produce and document the technical designs, and ensure that your designs produce testable, scalable, performant, secure and robust software within the estimated time scales. Where you are responsible for UX and UI components of design and implementation ensure that the documented designs are signed off by the Product owner office who may bring in additional stake holders for the process. 
• Define and foster good coding standards and best practices for the team ensuring we are writing good quality, clean and reusable code, with good levels of traceability, code metrics, and readability. This code should be performant at high volume and cope with intermittent failure and poor infra conditions. Support and adhere to QA gates and processes in achieving agreed quality goals.
• Maintain a good working knowledge of the concepts of "secure by design" and how they relate to the front-end technologies. Develop security conscious coding practices within the team to minimise the possibility and impact of an attack and improve detection and recovery processes. Make sure SCA and SAST scans are performed and vulnerabilities removed as per agreed security gates.
• Peer and code review other developers work, providing constructive feedback and requests for change before commit.
• 3rd Line support, where there are queries and questions from the business (which may have originated from the client), and the queries need direct knowledge of the code, data structures or detailed behaviours of parts of the software you have contributed to, be available to answer questions to resolve the queries. This may involve interacting with other ticketing systems and tooling maintained by other departments.  You may also be required to help troubleshoot areas of the application which you may or may not have worked on to resolve issues and defects. Ensure that the team is organised to cover these.
• Report on a regular basis the status and improvements with the team via agreed metrics to the line management hierarchy and use this data to look for ongoing change and improvement.
• Collaborate with other managers and leads to refine, document, follow and enforce guidelines to produce the highest quality code.
• Be an effective communicator by using clear concise language with appropriate tone; Presenting material both face to face and over screen shares; listening to the views of others, and adapting your own thinking based on their observations.
• Adhere to and actively improve Development procedures and their touch points with the remainder of the business.
• Compliance, executing the role in a manner that is consistent with all applicable laws and regulations and the long-term prosperity of the business – CRA, EU Data Act, GDPR…

•    Develop knowledge and skills within the team by mentoring more junior members of staff; documenting into agreed systems your own knowledge; identifying external training courses to ensure the global teams skill sets are appropriate for the function.
 

Qualifications and Attributes

• 8+ years of frontend experience with strong expertise in React, Vue.js, TypeScript and JavaScript
• Strong understanding of frontend architecture, software design, performance and coding principles
• Ability to create creative, intuitive and user-friendly features while following clean code and best practices
• Experience with code reviews, mentoring and providing technical guidance
• Experience with unit, component and E2E testing (Jest/Vitest, React Testing Library, Playwright/Cypress)
• Strong experience with Git, GitHub/GitLab and CI/CD
• Understanding of frontend security and vulnerability remediation (SonarQube, Ghost or similar)
• Experience using Claude/Claude Code or similar AI tools across the SDLC
• Experience creating HLDs, LLDs and technical documentation, and managing knowledge through Confluence
• Experience using JIRA, handling support/production tickets and troubleshooting issues
• Ability to work with, maintain and modernize legacy codebases
