Environmental Concept Artist - WFS

Summary/objective:

The Wingfeather Saga Animated Series at Angel Studios is looking for an Environment Concept Artist with a knowledge of 3D modeling and a passion for rich, fantastical worlds to join our team as we begin work on Season 6. Role reports to Art Director.

Essential functions

• Work closely with the Art Director to generate designs for a variety of environments, both interiors and exteriors.
• Create unique and inspired concept designs that range from blue sky world building and mood to the nitty-gritty details
• Execute on briefs created by Art Director
• Explore a wide variety of ideas through sketching, mood boards, 3d mockups, finish concepts, and illustrations
• Proactively seek feedback from Art Director, Production Supervisor, and other collaborators
• Create detailed callouts that accurately portray functionality, material properties, construction, scale, and the like for use by respective departments
• Develop and maintain an understanding of the story, its characters, and any limitations set forth by the team
• Create rough, but well organized and to-scale pre-vis models to be used for layout
• Must attend and contribute to regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in the English language required.  Additional language proficiency is a plus.

• Strong understanding of traditional art fundamentals including composition, perspective, color theory, lighting, proportion, and surface properties
• Strong visual design instincts and ability to create concepts that support and enhance the vision of the art direction
• Self-motivated and driven with excellent communication skills
• The ability to work well within a remote art department
• Receptive to art direction and critiques from project leadership and team members
• Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite and other software tools
• An exceptional listener with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with and Google Workspace.
• Detail-oriented perspective and able to pick up on overlooked details.
• Organization and time management. 
• Able to maintain confidentiality of information.
• Must be able to manage multiple assignments, set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions.
• Resourceful and able to problem-solve and manage tasks with ambiguity. 
• Willing to perform an array of tasks both in and out of the office.
• Can take feedback to tasks and assignments positively and create better solutions.
• A quick study, able to pick up new skills and learn how to use new programs.
• Must participate in setting and achieving regularly scheduled and outlined objectives. 
• Recognize when you're wrong, learning from your mistakes and moving past them.
• Ability to take individual ownership, execute with high energy, share context, insist on candor with positive intent.

Work environment - When in the main office, expect a comfortable, air-conditioned work environment. Team members are issued their own desks, but the office is an open, shared space and can be fast-paced and occasionally noisy.

Physical demands - Ability to sit at desk and use computer for prolonged periods of time

Position type and expected hours of work - Regular full-time, 40 hours per week.

Preferred education and experience

• A portfolio that shows experience working within fantasy themes and visual stylings
• Ability to create production ready 3D proxies
• Experience with Unreal Engine a plus
• Strong technical ability and willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and workflows
• Tennessee resident a plus. Remote work available
