At WSP, we are driven by inspiring future-ready pioneers to innovate. We are seeking an experienced Environmental Air Quality Modeler to join our growing Environmental Team. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex air quality permitting, compliance, and modeling projects for a diverse portfolio of industrial clients throughout the United States.

This role is preferably based in our Columbus, Ohio office; however, qualified candidates may be located in any WSP office across the United States. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams nationwide to deliver innovative environmental solutions, support critical infrastructure and industrial development projects, and help clients navigate an evolving regulatory landscape.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in air quality permitting and modeling, sound project management skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service while helping shape sustainable outcomes for our communities and environment.

Your Impact

• Lead and support air quality permitting, compliance, and regulatory projects for industrial clients.
• Prepare and review New Source Review (NSR), Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD), and other air permit applications.
• Conduct air dispersion modeling analyses using tools such as AERMOD and other applicable modeling platforms.
• Perform emissions calculations, emissions inventories, and air regulatory analyses.
• Prepare semi-annual, annual, and other regulatory compliance reports.
• Interpret federal, state, and local air quality regulations and provide strategic guidance to clients.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality environmental solutions.
• Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables while ensuring technical excellence.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and trusted technical support.
• Support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, client engagement, and identification of new project opportunities.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to the continued growth and development of the Air Quality practice.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Meteorology, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
• 5+ years of professional experience in air quality permitting, regulatory compliance, and environmental consulting.
• Demonstrated experience with:
  • Air dispersion modeling.
  • New Source Review (NSR) permitting.
  • Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) permitting.
  • Nonattainment permitting requirements.
  • Air emissions inventory development.
  • Title V permitting.
  • Regulatory compliance evaluations.
  • Air emission control technology assessments.
• Experience performing PSD modeling using AERMOD.
• Strong understanding of federal and state air quality regulations, policies, and emerging regulatory programs.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and client relationships simultaneously.
• Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with both AERMOD and CALPUFF modeling platforms.
• Existing professional relationships with state and federal regulatory agencies.
• Experience working with the Texas, Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky environmental regulatory agencies.
• Air permitting and compliance experience within one or more of the following industries:
  • Utilities and Power Generation
  • Data Centers
  • Oil and Gas
  • Refining
  • Chemical Manufacturing
  • Industrial Manufacturing
• Active participation in industry or environmental professional organizations.
• Strong client management and business development experience.
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate client needs and develop practical, solution-oriented recommendations.
