Position Summary

The Enterprise EHR Architect serves as the enterprise leader responsible for the strategic governance, deployment, optimization, and standardization of the organization's electronic health record (EHR) platform. Reporting to Operations, this role serves as the primary bridge between Clinical Operations, Physicians, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), Information Technology/Information Systems (IT/IS), and Practice Leadership to ensure that the EHR supports high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and scalable growth.

This individual will implement the organization's NextGen and EHR strategy and roadmap, including upgrades, enterprise standardization initiatives, workflow optimization, clinical content governance, and implementation activities associated with acquisitions, de novo practices, and operational transformations.

The ideal candidate possesses a clinical or informatics background, extensive experience with NextGen EHR, strong process improvement expertise, and the ability to coordinate enterprise-wide change management across geographically diverse cardiovascular practices.


Key Responsibilities

Enterprise EHR Strategy & Governance

  • Serve as the enterprise owner and subject matter expert for NextGen EHR and associated clinical technologies.
  • Develop and maintain a long-term EHR optimization roadmap aligned with organizational growth objectives and operational priorities.
  • Establish and maintain enterprise standards for workflows, templates, clinical content, documentation practices, order management, and provider efficiency tools.
  • Drive consistency across all markets while balancing local operational requirements and regulatory considerations.
  • Partner with executive leadership to create scalable EHR governance processes supporting future acquisitions, integrations, and de novo growth initiatives.
  • Lead enterprise governance committees and facilitate decision-making processes involving clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders.

NextGen Upgrade & Deployment Leadership

  • Lead planning, execution, and adoption of NextGen version upgrades across the organization.
  • Assess current-state workflows and identify opportunities for standardization and modernization within upgraded environments.
  • Partner with vendors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure successful implementation and post-go-live stabilization.
  • Develop deployment strategies, testing plans, training requirements, and adoption metrics.
  • Oversee system validation, user acceptance testing (UAT), workflow design sessions, and go-live readiness activities.

Clinical Workflow Optimization

  • Evaluate existing clinical workflows and identify opportunities to improve provider efficiency, patient outcomes, compliance, and staff productivity.
  • Lead redesign initiatives focused on reducing documentation burden and improving physician and staff experience.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise clinical pathways, documentation standards, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to optimize scheduling, patient throughput, care coordination, and quality initiatives.
  • Analyze workflow performance metrics and recommend process improvements based on data-driven insights.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Operations, RCM, IT/IS, Compliance, Quality, and Clinical Leadership teams.
  • Ensure EHR workflows support appropriate coding, charge capture, documentation requirements, and revenue cycle performance.
  • Collaborate with RCM leadership to identify opportunities to improve reimbursement, reduce denials, and strengthen documentation integrity.
  • Work with IT/IS teams to prioritize system enhancements, interfaces, integrations, and technical improvements.
  • Support acquisition due diligence activities and integration planning related to clinical systems and workflows.

Change Management & Training

  • Facilitate enterprise adoption strategies for new workflows, tools, and system enhancements. I
  • Develop communication, training, and support plans for clinicians and staff.
  • Monitor adoption and utilization metrics and implement corrective actions where needed.
  • Create sustainable processes for ongoing optimization, enhancement requests, and issue resolution.

Analytics & Performance Management

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for EHR utilization, provider efficiency, workflow adoption, and clinical operations.
  • Utilize reporting and analytics to identify optimization opportunities and measure outcomes.
  • Provide leadership updates regarding EHR initiatives, risks, adoption, and performance improvements. 


Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of healthcare operations, clinical informatics, EHR optimization, or healthcare technology experience.
  • 3+ years of direct NextGen EHR experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading EHR implementations, upgrades, conversions, or enterprise optimization initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of ambulatory clinical workflows and physician practice operations.
  • Experience partnering with physicians 
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements, documentation standards, quality programs, and reimbursement processes.
  • Experience leading enterprise-level process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong project management, stakeholder management, and change management capabilities.

Preferred

  • Cardiovascular, multispecialty, or physician practice management experience.
  • Clinical Informatics certification or related credentials.
  • Experience with project management tracking platforms (SmartSheet, Excel, etc.)
  • Experience supporting multi-state healthcare operations.
  • Familiarity with practice management, revenue cycle, population health, patient engagement, and interoperability solutions.
