Engineering Tools Administrator

Cornelis Networks is seeking an Engineering Tools Administrator to serve as the day-to-day administrator for developer tools and lab systems used by our software engineering organization. 

This is a role for someone who enjoys keeping developer-facing systems reliable, secure, and easy to use. You will administer our GitHub organization, Jira instance, and AWS infrastructure on the admin side, and provide remote system administration for the lab and test machines our engineers depend on for hardware validation, coordinating with designated onsite personnel for any physical, hands-on work. 

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, responsive, and comfortable balancing multiple concurrent requests from engineers across the organization. They perform routine administration within established policies, escalate architecture decisions and high-risk changes to the appropriate owners, and communicate clearly with program management, engineering management, and the DevOps team. 

Key Responsibilities:

Administer the GitHub Organization 

Configure and maintain approved organization- and repository-level permissions, team hierarchies, and role-based access control. Maintain branch protection rulesets, repository templates, and repo lifecycle policies. Develop, maintain and troubleshoot tool integrations and webhooks. 

Administer Jira and Confluence 

Configure and maintain Jira projects, workflows, permission and notification schemes, custom fields, and screens to match engineering and program management needs. Use approved automation rules and scripts to reduce repetitive administrative work, including status transitions and reporting. Configure and maintain
our Confluence universe.  

Administer Lab Infrastructure 

Manage SSH and user access and bridge the gap between the
IT organization and the engineering team for our development and test infrastructure. Maintain an accurate inventory of lab assets and access across people and automations.  

Administer AWS Infrastructure 

Perform routine AWS administration supporting engineering, including IAM access changes, EC2 lifecycle operations, S3 access configuration, tagging, and cost and usage review. Work within established account and network architecture, partnering with the DevOps team on VPC changes, account structure, and elevated access decisions. 

Partner Across Program Management, Engineering Management, and DevOps 

Partner with program management on Jira configuration and release reporting, with engineering management on implementing approved access and governance controls, and with the DevOps team on infrastructure standards, escalations, and changes outside this role's administrative scope. 

Provide Frontline Developer Support and Documentation 

Triage and resolve developer requests related to GitHub, Jira, AWS, and lab machine access.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in an IT, DevOps, or lab/systems support role. 

• Hands-on experience administering GitHub and Jira/Confluence, with demonstrated depth in at least one platform and the ability to perform routine administration in the other. 

• Previous experience
  administering these tools through software and/or hardware engineering releases.  

• Working knowledge of Linux system administration (RHEL, Rocky Linux, or Ubuntu). 

• Hands-on experience performing routine AWS administration, including IAM, EC2, S3, and basic VPC or security-group troubleshooting. AWS certification is not required. 

• Basic scripting or automation experience (e.g., Bash, Python) for repetitive administrative tasks. 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across program management, engineering management, and DevOps. 

• A customer-service mindset and comfort supporting multiple concurrent requests from engineers. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Current GitHub Administration or Atlassian administration certification, such as GH-100, ACP-120, or a successor credential, is helpful but not required. 

• Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), CompTIA Linux+, or LPIC-1. 

• Experience in a hardware, semiconductor, or networking engineering environment, including familiarity with lab equipment such as PCIe test cards and out-of-band management tools (IPMI, BMC). 

• Infrastructure-as-code experience (e.g., Ansible, SaltStack) for provisioning lab or test systems. 

• Experience with identity federation (SSO/SAML/SCIM) via providers such as Okta, Entra ID, or FreeIPA. 
  

Location: This is a remote position for employees residing within the United States. This role administers lab systems remotely and coordinates any physical, hands-on lab work with designated onsite personnel.

Your base pay will be determined by factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and location relative to the hiring range for the position.
