About the Role:
We're hiring a Director of Tax to build and own Fetch's tax function end to end across direct and indirect tax. You'll establish the strategy, processes, controls, and operating model needed to manage our federal, state, and local tax obligations while building infrastructure that can scale with the business.
This role is equal parts builder and operator. You'll own the day-to-day tax agenda while creating a function that does not formally exist today, bringing structure, visibility, and rigor to work that has historically been managed across internal teams and external advisors.
You'll report to the Chief Accounting Officer and partner closely with Accounting, FinOps, Strategic Finance, Legal, Financial Systems, and business leaders across the company.
This is a full-time role that can be held from one of our US offices or remotely in the United States.
Role Responsibilities:
- Own Fetch's U.S. tax function end to end across federal, state, and local direct and indirect taxes
- Build the Tax function from the ground up, including policies, processes, controls, calendars, systems, and governance
- Own corporate income tax provision and compliance, including tax accounting, returns, estimates, and extensions, working with external advisors where appropriate
- Lead state and local tax strategy and compliance, including sales and use tax, gross receipts taxes, franchise taxes, nexus, and registration requirements
- Assess the tax implications of new products, revenue streams, deals, and business models, bringing Tax into key decisions early
- Manage tax audits, notices, inquiries, and other interactions with taxing authorities
- Partner with Accounting on close, financial statement disclosures, internal controls, and audit readiness
- Identify tax planning, credit, and incentive opportunities while balancing economics, compliance, and operational complexity
- Manage external tax advisors and tax technology, building the right long-term mix of internal capability, automation, and outsourced support
Minimum Requirements:
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience, with meaningful ownership across U.S. corporate income tax and state and local tax
- Experience building, leading, or significantly scaling an in-house corporate tax function, not just operating within an established one
- Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state corporate taxation, ASC 740, and indirect tax
- Experience managing income tax provisions and tax compliance for a complex, multi-state business
- Ability to translate complex tax issues into clear business implications and practical recommendations
- Strong systems orientation and an interest in using technology and automation to build scalable processes
- Comfort working in ambiguity and strong stakeholder management skills across Finance and the broader business
Preferred Requirements:
- CPA and/or advanced degree in taxation
- Big Four or similar public accounting experience, ideally combined with in-house experience
- Experience in a high-growth technology, consumer, marketplace, advertising, or digital business
- Experience preparing a private company tax function for public-company scale and requirements
