Director, Supplemental & Group Analytics

Horace Mann is seeking a strategic and results-driven Director, Supplemental & Group Analytics to lead analytics and business intelligence initiatives that turn complex data into meaningful business action.

In this role, you’ll lead and develop a team of analysts while partnering with Supplemental & Group leaders to uncover performance drivers, define meaningful KPIs, and deliver insights that influence strategy, operations, and customer experience. You’ll also serve as an important connection between the business and enterprise Data and Technology teams, helping ensure data is reliable, well-defined, and positioned to support better decision-making.

The ideal candidate is both an analytics leader and business partner—someone who can dive into complex data, ask the right questions, communicate a compelling story, and turn insights into measurable results.

Key Responsibilities

Analytics Strategy & Business Insights

• Lead analytics initiatives supporting Supplemental & Group business priorities, translating business needs and questions into actionable insights and recommendations.
• Conduct and oversee deep-dive analyses of complex data to identify trends, root causes, risks, opportunities, and key performance drivers.
• Translate analytical findings into clear business recommendations that support strategic and operational decision-making.
• Partner with business leadership to execute analytics strategy and prioritize initiatives with the greatest potential business value.
• Incorporate industry trends, emerging analytics capabilities, and best practices into the evolution of the analytics function.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of analysts responsible for data analysis, business intelligence, reporting, and operational analytics.
• Establish priorities and ensure analytical resources are aligned to the most important business needs.
• Develop team capabilities while fostering curiosity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Manage multiple analytical priorities while maintaining quality, timeliness, and business relevance.

Performance Measurement & Business Intelligence

• Partner with business leaders to define KPIs, performance measures, and business definitions that provide meaningful visibility into organizational performance.
• Lead the development and enhancement of dashboards, reporting, and analytical solutions.
• Communicate performance results, trends, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Ensure reporting and analytics provide decision-makers with clear, reliable, and actionable information.

Operational Improvement & Business Partnership

• Lead cross-functional initiatives that use analytics to improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, and customer experience.
• Partner across business functions to identify performance opportunities and translate analytical insights into practical solutions.
• Measure outcomes to determine whether implemented changes are delivering the intended business results.
• Build trusted relationships with business leaders and serve as a key analytics advisor.

Enterprise Data & Governance

• Partner with enterprise Data and Technology teams on the enterprise data warehouse and other data initiatives, representing Supplemental & Group business analytics needs.
• Support the development of data requirements, definitions, validation, governance, and adoption.
• Serve as an analytics subject matter expert regarding data quality, structures, flows, governance, and business definitions.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen the reliability, accessibility, and usability of data for business decision-making.
• Support enterprise data transformation efforts by connecting technical data capabilities with practical business needs.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Analytics, or a related field.
• 6–8 years of progressive experience in analytics, business intelligence, finance, operations, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing analysts and managing multiple analytical priorities.
• Strong experience conducting complex analysis and translating findings into actionable business recommendations.
• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives and driving measurable operational improvements.
• Strong knowledge of finance, operations, and process management.
• Experience with SQL, Power BI, or similar business intelligence and data visualization tools.
• Experience supporting enterprise data warehouse, data transformation, or related enterprise data initiatives.
• Strong communication, collaboration, project leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

• Advanced degree in Business, Finance, Analytics, Data Science, or a related discipline.
• Experience within the insurance or financial services industry.
• Experience supporting Supplemental, Group, employee benefits, or related insurance products.

Pay Range:

• $105,200.00 - $147,950.00 annually + bonus

Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
