As Director, Organizational Development, Southeast, you will serve as a trusted advisor to Chief Professional Officers, Boards of Directors, providing strategic consultation that strengthens leadership, governance, organizational effectiveness, and long-term sustainability. Through partnership, coaching, and capacity-building, you'll help local Clubs maximize their impact so more young people have access to safe, high-quality experiences that change lives.

 

The SE Region covers: DC, VA, NC, SC, TN, GA, AL, MS, LA, FL, with a strong preference for the candidate to reside in TN.

 

 

Reporting to the Lead Director, Organizational Development, this remote position will be a critical support system for CEO's and Boards across a dynamic service area. You will guide strategic growth, foster leadership, and elevate board engagement to ensure the sustained success of each local organization. Your ability to navigate the complexities of organizational and leadership development, coupled with your expertise in non-profit finance, will drive meaningful change.

Additional Responsibilities

Your impact will not be confined to just one area. You will be called upon to participate in regional and national staff meetings, as well as contribute to the broader strategic initiatives of the organization. You’ll conduct face-to-face visits to ensure clubs are meeting key standards, offering hands-on support when needed to develop remediation plans and ensure continued excellence.

Beyond your specific region, you’ll be a vital part of organizational-wide projects, collaborating with your peers and BGCA senior leaders to drive excellence across the movement. You’ll be expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards, integrating BGCA’s core values of integrity, excellence, and inclusion into all aspects of your work. Whether conducting safety assessments or leading a strategic growth initiative, you will embody the mission-driven focus that defines BGCA’s work.

With travel opportunities up to 70%, you'll be on the frontlines of our movement, shaping the future of youth-focused organizations. This role will be an integral part of advancing our mission while building resilient organizations capable of lasting impact.

Strong Organizational Partnerships

  • Builds trusted advisory relationships with CEOs, Board Chairs, and key stakeholders across the assigned service area.
  • Achieves high levels of engagement and satisfaction among supported organizations.
  • Successfully supports leadership transitions and organizational change initiatives.

Increased Organizational Effectiveness

  • Ensures organizations complete and utilize key assessments, including KPIs, Standards of Organizational Effectiveness, and Formula for Impact assessments.
  • Partners with organizations to implement improvement plans that strengthen governance, leadership, operations, and sustainability.
  • Demonstrates measurable improvement in organizational performance indicators across the portfolio.

Growth in Revenue, Membership, and Market Presence

  • Supports Clubs in increasing individual giving and diversifying revenue streams.
  • Helps organizations expand membership participation, with a particular focus on teen engagement.
  • Identifies and advances opportunities for new Club development and market expansion within the region.

Enhanced Board Engagement & Advocacy

  • Strengthens board effectiveness through recruitment, development, succession planning, and governance support.
  • Increases board engagement in fundraising, advocacy, and strategic leadership activities.
  • Builds stronger community awareness and support for the Boys & Girls Club mission.

Leadership Development & Capacity Building

  • Increases participation in leadership development opportunities among CEOs, board members, and key staff.
  • Supports the development of high-performing leadership teams capable of sustaining long-term organizational success.
  • Creates a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and organizational excellence.

Safe, Sustainable, High-Performing Organizations

  • Promotes adherence to child safety standards and organizational best practices.
  • Supports organizations in proactively identifying and addressing risks.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring:

  • Significant leadership experience within the nonprofit sector, preferably serving in roles such as CEO, COO, Executive Director, Chief of Staff, or other senior leadership positions.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with Boards of Directors, coaching executive leaders, and supporting organizations through growth, change, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Strong business acumen, including experience interpreting financial statements, assessing organizational health, and helping leaders make informed decisions that support long-term sustainability.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and consulting skills, with the ability to influence, advise, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Experience leading organizational development, capacity-building, governance, leadership development, or nonprofit consulting initiatives that have produced measurable results.
  • The ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, adapting your approach to meet organizations where they are while helping them achieve their goals.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage audiences ranging from board members and executives to community leaders and staff.
  • A passion for developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and advancing outcomes for young people and communities.

 Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Nonprofit Management, Social Services, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience managing, administering, or operating a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth-serving organization; or seven years of experience in organizational development, nonprofit consulting, or related advisory roles.
  • Ability to travel up to 70% throughout the Southeast region.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $106,000.00 to $143,000.00. BGCA takes into consideration a combination of a candidate’s education, training and experience, as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required for the role and other external and internal data when establishing a salary level.
