AI Summary

Lead and scale a team of eCommerce accountants to deliver end-to-end accounting services and ensure monthly books are closed by the 15th. Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to improve automation and manage client escalations within 24 hours.

This is a remote position.

Ecommerce sellers don’t fail because they can’t sell. They fail because they lose track of the money.

Webgility already solves half of that problem — our software automatically reconciles every order, fee, refund, and payout across Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, eBay, and 30+ other channels straight into QuickBooks and Xero, for a platform trusted by 5,000+ ecommerce operators. But we back every close with something software alone can’t promise: a human guarantee. Real accountants close the ecommerce books and verify the numbers are right — every month, without exception. That’s Books Done, and right now, it needs a leader.

We’re looking for someone to build and run the team that delivers it.

Requirements

The Role

You’ll own the full accountant bench delivering end to end Ecommerce Accounting Services — today, 4 eCommerce Accountants; within the next year, close to 10, covering roughly 400 customers. This role means real ownership, real autonomy where your decisions on hiring, quality, and process actually shape how this business scales.

What You’ll Own

Team leadership. Hire, train, and manage the eCommerce Accountant team — starting at 4, scaling toward 10 — and build the bench ahead of customer growth, not behind it.

Hands-on when it counts. This isn’t a pure oversight seat. When an account hits a genuinely hard US accounting or ecommerce question — multi-channel payout reconciliation, marketplace fee treatment, inventory and COGS edge cases — you’re able to step in yourself, not just delegate it. Your team should see you as someone who can still do the work, not just manage people who do it.

Process, SLAs, and quality — not sign-off. You won’t be the one signing individual client books — your accountants own that. What you own is the system behind it: the process every close follows, the quality bar every account is held to, the timelines that keep us honest, and making sure the whole team follows the right accounting practices consistently, every single month.

SLA ownership. Monthly Books Close and certified sign-off by the 15th of every month, no exceptions without a real escalation. These aren’t aspirational — they’re the promise behind our human guarantee, and you’re the person who makes sure it holds.

Client escalations. When something’s wrong, you’re who the entire team and the client can count on — every problem solved or escalated within 24 hours, not left to fester.

Cross-team collaboration. Sales sells the deal, Onboarding gets the customer live, Support keeps them happy day to day — you make sure Accounting Services fits cleanly into all three, not around them. You’ll work with Sales so what’s sold matches what we can actually deliver, with Onboarding so the handoff into Books Done is seamless from day one, and with Support so any accounting question that lands with them gets routed to your team fast and resolved cleanly.

Capacity planning. You’ll track customer growth against team capacity (roughly 40 customers per accountant) and know exactly when to hire next — before the team is stretched, not after we’ve already missed a close.

Partnering with Product & Engineering. You’re closer to where automation breaks down than anyone else at Webgility. You’ll work directly with Product and Engineering to help them build the right systems — flagging exactly where reconciliation, matching, or workflow logic needs to change, so the humans on your team spend their time on judgment calls, not data entry.

Reporting up. You’ll give leadership an honest, no-surprises view of team health, client health, and where the next bottleneck is — before it becomes a problem, not after.

What Success Looks Like

100% of monthly closes delivered by the 15th. Every client issue resolved or escalated within 24 hours. A team whose capacity is always a step ahead of customer growth. A process so solid that our human guarantee never gets tested by an actual mistake. And Manoj, genuinely out of the day-to-day.

What We’re Looking For

Deep, hands-on US accounting expertise — this isn’t a generalist ops role. You should be genuinely strong in QuickBooks and Xero, fluent in the specific ways ecommerce breaks standard bookkeeping (multi-channel payouts, marketplace fees, refunds and chargebacks, inventory and COGS across channels), and have real accounting consulting or advisory experience, not just production bookkeeping.

15+ years in accounting, with real experience managing a team that delivers outsourced or managed accounting services — Client Accounting Services (CAS) background is a strong plus.

Proven experience managing and scaling a team, not just doing the work yourself — you’ve hired, coached, and held people accountable before.

Comfortable owning client relationships and hard conversations, not just the numbers behind them.

CA (India) or equivalent qualification with strong US GAAP exposure; US CPA is a plus, not a requirement.

Bonus Points

Experience scaling an accounting or bookkeeping team. Prior advisory work — helping ecommerce clients understand their numbers, not just deliver them. Familiarity with ecommerce platforms beyond the basics — Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Etsy, TikTok Shop. Background in a SaaS or tech-enabled services company rather than only a traditional CPA firm.

Why This Role

This isn’t a maintenance job. Webgility’s Ecommerce Accounting Services team is being built right now, at a scale nobody here has run before — which means you’re not inheriting a machine, you’re building one. You’ll have direct access to leadership, real ownership over how this function is structured, and a clear, visible role in whether Webgility’s accounting services become a real second business line or stay a side offering. If you want to run something instead of just work in something, this is that role.
