We are currently seeking a Director, Medical & Scientific Affairs – Cardiovascular Imaging to join our Medical & Scientific Affairs team within ICON's Medical Imaging division. In this strategic leadership role, you will provide medical, scientific and cardiovascular imaging expertise to support clinical trial design, imaging endpoint strategy, scientific oversight, client engagement, business development activities and delivery excellence across global clinical development programs. You will serve as a trusted advisor to sponsors, investigators and internal stakeholders, helping to shape innovative cardiovascular imaging solutions that support drug, device and diagnostic development.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Provide scientific and medical leadership for cardiovascular imaging programs, supporting protocol development, imaging endpoint strategy, study design and imaging charter development.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for cardiovascular imaging methodologies, imaging biomarkers and image-based endpoint evaluation across clinical development programs.

  • Partner with sponsors and study teams to provide expert guidance on imaging strategy, image acquisition standards, quality oversight and data interpretation.

  • Support business development activities through scientific consultation, proposal development, bid defenses and client presentations.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with sponsors, investigators, key opinion leaders and industry partners.

  • Collaborate with operational, medical and scientific teams to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality imaging solutions and services.

  • Provide oversight and guidance for independent image review processes, reader qualification, training and quality management activities.

  • Contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, industry initiatives and thought leadership activities that enhance ICON's visibility and reputation.

  • Support responses to regulatory authorities and provide expert input regarding imaging endpoints, methodology and study-specific imaging considerations.

  • Mentor and develop colleagues across medical, scientific and operational functions, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and excellence.

  • Working with the Head of the department on developing mid-term and long-term strategy in cardiovascular imaging area.


Your Profile

  • MD degree with minimum 5 years of practicing or relevant experience is required, including specialized training and demonstrated expertise in Cardiology, with a focus on Cardiac Imaging.

  • PhD in relevant subject area with additional certifications in cardiac imaging will be considered. Minimum 5 years of cardiovascular imaging experience is required

  • Board certification is a preference but not required.

  • Clinical trial experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices, CRO and/or academic research programs.

  • Experience supporting global clinical trials in cardiovascular, cardiometabolic, heart failure, structural heart and/or cardiovascular outcomes research.

  • Expertise in cardiovascular imaging modalities, including one or more of echocardiography, cardiac MRI (CMR), cardiac CT, Right Heart Catheterization, and/or nuclear cardiology.

  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular imaging endpoints, imaging biomarkers and their application within clinical development programs.

  • Knowledge of drug development processes and global regulatory requirements, including ICH-GCP.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex scientific initiatives and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with sponsors, investigators, key opinion leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Experience supporting business development, client relationship management and strategic growth initiatives.

  • Ability to travel 10%

  • Preferably live in the US, Canada, UK, or Ireland
