Summary: Blood Cancer United is a mission centric, locally delivered and nationally powered organization, relentlessly pursuing cancer cures. To help achieve this mission, the Director, Growth Initiatives is a frontline fundraiser responsible for identifying, cultivating, securing, and retaining groups, particularly within the collegiate space, to advance fundraising and mission-driven activities. This role serves as a strategic thought partner and hands-on implementer of cultivation, engagement, and stewardship strategies designed to deepen relationships, grow participation, and achieve sustainable revenue and mission impact. 

Core Responsibilities/ Primary Duties: 

  • Execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, including targeted strategies for constituent cultivation, recruitment, and stewardship; conduct meaningful outreach to prospective constituents, fundraising groups, and external leaders to secure participation and support.
  • Build and manage a robust prospect pipeline in partnership with the Vice President and key stakeholders by identifying new opportunities through multiple channels and preparing compelling materials to acquire and retain fundraising groups.
  • Engage external leaders across functions to develop mutually beneficial collaborations aligned with partner objectives and Blood Cancer United goals; identify and optimize value propositions that drive mission impact and sustainable revenue growth.
  • Provide expertise, guidance, modeling, and coaching to regional teams in developing and executing account strategies, managing high-level volunteer groups, driving revenue-generating activities, and maintaining fiscal controls.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Vice President in developing plans for assigned products and initiatives, including communications, timelines, implementation approaches, and performance measures.
  • Lead and complete national campaign projects, including tool development and updates, data collection and analysis, training support, and other national initiatives.
  • Provide high-level expertise across the collegiate space to expand participation, strengthen strategic partnerships, and support campaign and mission funding needs.
  • Represent Blood Cancer United with credibility, professionalism, and mission alignment, exemplifying the One Blood Cancer United mindset and setting a standard of excellence for peers and stakeholders.
  • Achieve annual revenue targets by creating, implementing, evaluating, and adjusting personalized fundraising and account strategies.
  • Produce forecasts and projection reports by evaluating recruitment and fundraising activity, fundraising efficiency, community engagement, campaign satisfaction, and overall campaign performance.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Blood Cancer United's mission, programs, and organizational priorities and support broader organizational initiatives.
    Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree preferred.
  • Eight or more years of fundraising or sales experience, including demonstrated success engaging leaders and achieving fundraising or revenue goals.
  • Strong background in constituent recruitment, relationship management, cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Experience using a constituent relationship management system, preferably Salesforce, and proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in negotiation and solution-oriented problem solving. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Advanced knowledge of fundraising, sales, pipeline development, moves management, account strategy, and constituent stewardship.
  • Proven ability to create deep and meaningful prospect pipelines and develop strategic plans that convert opportunities into sustained participation and revenue.
  • Ability to lead individuals or cross-functional teams in pursuing and securing major opportunities through thoughtful account strategy, high-level relationship development, and organization-wide thinking.
  • Strong communication, presentation, organizational, analytical, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain trust and rapport with internal and external stakeholders and to work effectively within a highly matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze performance data, prepare forecasts, and adjust strategies to improve fundraising efficiency, engagement, satisfaction, and campaign outcomes.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, resourceful, and committed to excellence, with the judgment to work independently while collaborating closely with colleagues.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and operate effectively in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

  • Weekend and evening work may be required on occasion.
  • Territory travel of approximately 25% to 50% is expected.

We are excited to share the base pay range for this position is $96K to $135K. The offered compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Blood Cancer United we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the current compensation of similarly situated roles and direct team members. Base compensation is only one component of our Total Rewards program, which also includes an annual incentive plan and a competitive benefits package.
