Frontline Road Safety Group (FRS), a portfolio company of Bain Capital, is the undisputed North American pavement marking leader. Our company proudly provides its customers with unparalleled customer service and the use of innovative technology to ensure timely and value-added results. In our time of growth, we are seeking dedicated and talented individuals to add to our team.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Frontline Road Safety is seeking a highly strategic and operationally focused Director, Equipment and Fleet Operations to lead the development, optimization, and deployment of one of the largest roadway safety equipment fleets in North America.

As the first dedicated leader of this function, this person will build, align and execute a company-wide equipment strategy from the ground up across a rapidly growing portfolio of operating companies serving roadway marking, traffic control, airport marking, runway services, signage, and related infrastructure markets. The role oversees capital planning, fleet lifecycle management, procurement, equipment standardization, maintenance strategy, utilization analytics, and acquisition integration.

The Director will partner closely with regional operating leaders, finance, sourcing, and executive leadership to ensure disciplined deployment of capital, maximize equipment utilization, reduce total cost of ownership, and support Frontline's aggressive organic and acquisition-driven growth strategy.

This role combines strategic leadership, financial discipline, operational excellence, and a hands-on understanding of construction and infrastructure equipment environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enterprise Fleet & Equipment Strategy

  • Develop and execute Frontline's multi-year equipment and fleet strategy.
  • Establish equipment standards and best practices across all operating companies.
  • Build a scalable equipment management platform capable of supporting continued rapid growth and acquisitions.
  • Create enterprise-wide governance processes for fleet procurement, replacement, deployment, transfers, and disposal.

Capital Planning & Allocation

  • Own annual and long-range CapEx planning processes.
  • Develop capital prioritization models based on ROI, utilization, operational need, and growth opportunities.
  • Partner with regional leaders, CFO, and COO on capital allocation decisions.
  • Build discipline around capital requests, approvals, forecasting, and post-investment performance tracking.
  • Establish replacement schedules and fleet lifecycle planning methodologies.
  • Support the make-versus-buy-versus-lease decision and equipment-finance structuring (purchase, lease, and rental) to optimize total cost of ownership and balance-sheet efficiency across the fleet.

Fleet Optimization

  • Create equipment utilization dashboards and KPIs.
  • Identify opportunities to redeploy underutilized assets throughout the network.
  • Improve asset productivity while reducing idle equipment and rental dependency.
  • Monitor fleet age, downtime, maintenance costs, and utilization trends.
  • Establish benchmarks by business unit and region.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Leverage Frontline's scale to negotiate equipment purchases, rentals, maintenance agreements, and service contracts.
  • Develop strategic supplier relationships with OEMs, distributors, and equipment finance providers.
  • Standardize purchasing processes where practical while preserving local operating flexibility.
  • Drive equipment sourcing savings and procurement efficiencies.

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Establish maintenance standards and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Improve fleet reliability, uptime, and safety performance.
  • Implement fleet-management technologies and telematics to improve utilization and uptime and — critically for a road-safety business — the safe operation of vehicles and equipment in the field.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on lifecycle cost reduction.

M&A Integration

  • Lead equipment due diligence for acquisitions.
  • Assess fleet quality, utilization, maintenance status, replacement obligations, and hidden liabilities.
  • Develop integration plans for acquired fleets.
  • Identify opportunities to realize equipment synergies and procurement savings.
  • Support post-close harmonization efforts, partnering with Corporate Development and the Integration / PMO function, while respecting local operating needs.

DATA, ANALYTICS & REPORTING

Develop and monitor key metrics including:

  • Fleet Utilization, Age, Return on invested capital, maintenance costs
  • Equipment uptime, rental spend, asset turnover
  • Replacement backlog, procurement savings, safety performacne
  • Provide regular reporting to executive leadership, and support the CEO, CFO, and COO in Board- and investor-level reporting on equipment capital and performance.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and lead a high-performing equipment and fleet management function.
  • Serve as the company's subject matter expert on equipment strategy and lifecycle management.
  • Partner collaboratively with regional presidents, operating company leaders, and support functions.
  • Develop scalable processes that balance local entrepreneurship with enterprise discipline.
  • Champion a culture of safety, accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive standardization and enterprise discipline primarily through influence, credibility, and trust — not positional authority — across autonomous, entrepreneurial, and often founder-led operating companies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in fleet, equipment, operations, procurement, or asset management.
  • Experience managing large, geographically dispersed construction or industrial equipment fleets.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing significant annual capital expenditure programs.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience evaluating ROI, lifecycle costs, and capital investments.
  • Experience developing enterprise fleet standards and optimization strategies.
  • Proven ability to drive change and standardization across multiple autonomous, often founder-led business units through influence rather than direct authority.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and project management skills.

Preferred

  • Experience within roadway construction, pavement marking, traffic control, asphalt, aggregates, airport services, utility construction, or similar infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience within a private equity-backed environment.
  • M&A integration and acquisition due diligence experience.
  • Familiarity with equipment telematics and fleet management systems.
  • AEMP, CPM, PMP, or related professional certifications.
