About the OrganizationUpwardly Global is a national workforce development organization that connects work-authorized, college-educated immigrants to skill-aligned professional employment across the United States. Our model works. Jobseekers enter our programs earning an average of $9,000 per year and are placed in roles averaging $67,000 per year. To date, we have supported an estimated 35,000 job placements, contributing billions in earnings to the U.S. economy.
Upwardly Global is data-driven, economically accountable, and built for scale. About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Product Designer who is passionate about designing products that improve people's lives to join our team and support our transformation to a digital product-driven organization.
The Product Designer will own the user experience of our platform end-to-end, collaborating with cross-functional teams to craft user-centered design solutions. They will leverage data and user research to inform the design process, resulting in products that are visually appealing but also highly functional and aligned with user needs. Because we are building an AI-powered career platform, this position will shape how our users experience AI as a helpful and trustworthy guide.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead design projects end-to-end, including user flows, wireframes, low-fidelity prototypes, high-fidelity mockups, and visual assets.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to align design solutions with business goals and technical requirements.
- Design conversational and AI-guided experiences- chat, voice, and assistant-driven flows- so that AI feels like one coherent, consistent presence across the product.
- Design for our users' real conditions: mobile-first, accessible, and clear for users navigating English as a second or third language.
- Designing data-rich interfaces such as dashboards, progress indicators, or assessment/scoring displays and applying strong information hierarchy and visual encoding (color, iconography, progressive disclosure
- Own and evolve our design system- design documentation, style guides, component patterns, and asset libraries - to ensure consistency across a multi-role platform and to ensure alignment with the branding and enable clean handoff to engineering.
- Drive design iterations, refining and improving UX solutions based on feedback from users, team members, and stakeholders.
- Help plan and conduct usability tests, analyze results, and identify areas to improve the user experience.
Qualifications:- 3–5 years of experience in UX and product design.
- A well-designed portfolio demonstrating relevant design projects and skills- including wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity design
- Experience designing AI-powered or conversational products (chatbots, voice agents, or AI assistants).
- Experience designing end-to-end, consumer-facing product experiences- not just individual screens or internal tools.
- Experience designing learning or educational products- structured content, progression, and progress-tracking systems.
- Familiarity with how LLM-based features behave- latency, variability, and the risk of incorrect output- and how thoughtful design mitigates those rough edges.
- Familiarity with front-end development technologies (e.g., React/component-based frameworks) and how they shape design implementation and handoff.
- Experience designing accessible, mobile-first interfaces, ideally for audiences with a range of language and digital literacy levels to ensure designs meet accessibility standards (i.e. WCAG compliance).
- Knowledge of usability testing methodologies and user research techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, meet deadlines, and demonstrate professionalism and a positive attitude.
- A growth mindset- actively seeking feedback from users, stakeholders, and the design community, and continually sharpening your craft.
- Excitement about our mission to create an inclusive and welcoming country without barriers for newcomers to thrive in the labor market.
