The role

We are looking to hire an experienced Digital Merchandising Manager to join our awesome digital team who are pivotal to MEC’s growth plan. This is a 18 months fixed-term contract for a maternity leave.  

As a Digital Merchandising  Manager, you’ll ensure our customers can find the products and information they need on mec.ca using your varied skillset to diagnose pain points and reduce friction in the customer journey. You are responsible for merchandising across the customer journey including touchpoints such as the homepage, product listing pages, campaign landing pages, search results and more. You’ll provide valuable insight into how our customers shop online, and use data to continuously iterate, test, and analyze your merchandising experience to drive online KPIs. You’ll have a varied role that takes you beyond just the basics and challenges you every day with the customer and our core values at the heart of every decision you make. 

Location: This can be a hybrid role based at MEC's Support Office in Vancouver or remote within Canada. 

As a Digital Merchandising Manager; you'll:

  • Build and maintain an exceptional experience on MEC’s digital properties 
  • Ensure that product discovery and findability is optimized for both search and browse experiences 
  • Coordinate with various teams to ensure alignment between merchandising strategy, digital merchandising and marketing initiatives 
  • Review sales data and ecommerce metrics to identify and prioritize opportunities for optimization and growth 
  • Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of MEC’s product assortment in assigned categories, understanding how customers discover and choose products within them 
  • Work collaboratively across ecommerce and other teams to improve how the digital experience supports the customer’s journey  
  • Create and update promotional content including the homepage, campaign landing pages, product listing page, banners and more 
  • Support with building the digital journey for loyalty campaigns and the digital co-op program 
  • Optimize on-site product recommendations to drive product discovery and basket building 
  • Support the ecommerce strategy for organic search  
  • Support the strategy for user generated and AI content 
  • Proactively seek opportunities to build and refine processes, while capturing and documenting essential site operations knowledge 
  • Support new feature development and conduct user acceptance testing as needed, working closely with the Digital Product and UX teams 
  • Evolve how we leverage merchandising technology and tools, partnering with our Digital Product team 
  • Complete various individual and team-based projects as requested by the Director of Digital Merchandising 
  • Conduct research relating to industry best practices and trends of interest 

What you'll bring:

  • A post-secondary degree or certificate in a related discipline e.g., marketing, eCommerce, business administration 
  • Strong experience with at least one Content Management System (CMS), such as Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce or similar 
  • 3-5 years’ eCommerce or digital experience including merchandising, usability, customer retention, content management and promotion 
  • A strong understanding of web merchandising principles 
  • A highly analytical mind that can translate data into key insights and actions 
  • Strong knowledge of Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics  
  • A highly motivated individual, with a naturally inquisitive nature and a strong knowledge of the retail customer’s needs 
  • Great communications skills. You have the ability to keep team members informed and align with your team.  
  • Exceptional collaborative skills with experience working across multiple departments 
  • Exceptional organization skills. You can handle many tasks at the same time and meet deadlines while keeping cool 
  • Knowledge of multiple outdoor activities and product categories is considered a strong asset 
  • MS Office proficiency 

The Compensation & Perks! 

This is a permanent role with the anticipated salary range of $75,500 - $90,000 base. The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications and internal equity.
