The role involves designing and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines and managing cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code. You will also be responsible for ensuring system reliability, monitoring performance, and integrating security best practices into deployment workflows.

As organizational scales we rely on our in-house software development expertise to maintain and improve our operational and customer-facing systems. Position summary In this role, you will be reporting directly to the Development Manager, with support from the Development Team Leaders and the wider Development Team.
This role has responsibility to design, implement, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines that automate our software deployment efforts while ensuring business continuity. The ability to communicate with stakeholders, to understand infrastructure needs, and to quickly translate those into scalable, automated workflows is key. The role bridges the gap between development and operations, enhances system reliability, created documented deployment protocols to eliminate knowledge silos, and streamlines our software delivery lifecycle.
Key responsibilities of the role
• Deployment Automation & CI/CD – Design, build, and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to fully automate software releases, removing manual dependencies.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) – Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using modern IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) to ensure environments are reproducible, version controlled, and scalable. • System Reliability & Uptime – Monitor system performance, implement robust alerting mechanisms, and ensure high availability of both internal and customer-facing systems.
• Build & Deployment Management – Oversee collaboration between the Infrastructure and Development teams for system builds, deployments, installations, and configurations across environments.
• Security & Compliance – Integrate security best practices into the deployment pipeline (DevSecOps), managing access controls, secrets, and automated vulnerability scanning.
• Documentation & Mentorship – Interface effectively with the engineering team to streamline developer workflows. Comprehensively document deployment processes and cross-train team members to eliminate single points of failure.
• Incident Management – Respond to technical incidents and infrastructure issues, perform root-cause analysis, and execute appropriate corrective actions for swift resolution. Required experience & technical skills To succeed in this role you need experience with the following tools (or similar) and a demonstrated ability to learn to use new technologies quickly will be highly favoured:
• Linux Servers (Administration, Shell Scripting)
• CI/CD Pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar)
• Containerization & Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Cloud Based Platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar)
• Database management and deployment automation (MySQL/MariaDB/Redis) Key selection criteria • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation)
• Experience automating deployments for PHP/Laravel/WordPress and Javascript frameworks (React/Vue.js)
• Git/GitHub/Gitlab/Bitbucket
• AI Tooling / Automation
• Observability/APM tools (Prometheus, Grafana etc...)
Key Selection Criteria
To be considered for this role, you should be able to demonstrate:
• Strong English language skills, both written and verbal.
• Willingness to work in Melbourne (Australia) hours to align with company head office.
• Flexibility to work outside standard hours for planned deployments when needed.
• Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years' experience in a similar DevOps or Systems Engineering role.
• Experience working in remote-based teams.
• Extensive experience designing and implementing automated CI/CD pipelines to replace manual, single-user deployment processes.
• Strong understanding of Docker, Linux environments, and Cloud infrastructure scaling.
• Initiative to 'roll up your sleeves' and figure things out when necessary.
• Ability to problem solve and work independently and as part of the development team.
