The Design Lead will define the end-to-end user experience strategy and lead a team of designers to create intuitive interfaces for medical AI products. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate complex clinical data into accessible visuals while maintaining brand consistency across all marketing and product touchpoints.

About Us: Artera is an AI startup that develops medical artificial intelligence tests to personalize therapy for cancer patients. Artera is on a mission to personalize medical decisions for patients and physicians on a global scale.

Artera is seeking a highly strategic and hands-on Design Lead to define and elevate the end-to-end user experience across our products and customer touchpoints. This role is responsible for shaping how clinicians, patients, and partners interact with Artera through our clinic-facing web portals, test reports, medical education and marketing materials.

In this role, you will lead an internal & external team of product designers and partner closely with cross-functional leaders to turn intricate medical data, AI-driven insights, and complex provider workflows into intuitive, accessible, and visually compelling experiences. You will champion cohesive human-centered design principles while meeting the rigorous quality and regulatory standards expected of medical technologies. Your work will help clinicians make more informed decisions, improve patient understanding, and strengthen the overall experience of working with Artera.

Essential Responsibilities:

Design Leadership & Strategy

  • Define the long-term design vision and user experience strategy across Artera’s software products and assets in close alignment with Product, Marketing, Medical, Sales, and Engineering leadership.

  • Scale and govern Artera’s design system, visual standards, component libraries, and Figma file governance to accelerate high-quality design output and engineering execution and ensure a consistent customer experience.

  • Evangelize design thinking across the broader organization, incorporating the voice of the clinical user into product and communication design.

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of product designers, fostering a culture of constructive design critiques, inclusivity, and continuous learning.

Clinical UX & Product Delivery

  • Translate highly complex workflows—such as medical imaging, data-heavy analytics, and/or AI-assisted decision making—into clear interaction graphics and visuals.

  • Own the end-to-end design lifecycle, producing user flows, low-fidelity wireframes, interactive prototypes, and production-ready high-fidelity UI specifications.

  • Ensure data clarity and information architecture, ensuring critical health data is contextualized safely to prevent clinician cognitive overload and medical error.

Product Marketing & Brand Alignment

  • Oversee product launch design, creating compelling marketing assets, landing pages, interactive product demos, and visual sales enablement collateral.

  • Translate the product’s clinical value into marketing visuals, converting scientific, high-density health data and outcomes research into clear, impactful infographics, case studies, and presentation decks.

  • Maintain brand consistency, ensuring the visual language used across sales pitches, marketing campaigns, and website touchpoints aligns perfectly with the core product software experience

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of 8 years of digital product design experience, with at least 2+ years leading or mentoring design teams.

  • Proven track record in healthcare or regulated spaces (e.g., HealthTech, SaMD, BioTech, clinical trial software, or complex enterprise B2B SaaS)

  • A robust portfolio demonstrating complex system design, deep user research integration, data visualization, and successful cross-functional product launches.

  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives, with demonstrable ability to achieve results, hold vendors accountable, and manage shifting priorities.

  • Experience driving commercial success at fast-growth startups, with rapidly evolving products in a competitive landscape.

  • Expert proficiency with design tools, such as Figma, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suites

  • Cultural Fit

    • Tight alignment with Artera’s values of Patient Success, Impact, Perseverance, Team Synergy, and Efficiency.

    • Capable of operating in a lean and cost-efficient way.

    • Results-oriented mindset, with a passion for driving fast and sustainable growth and delivering value to customers.
