This is a role for a hands-on compliance professional who wants to help build and shape a financial-crime programme from the ground up, working closely with the Compliance Officer on everything from day-to-day KYC/AML operations to international licensing efforts.
Responsibilities & Core Competencies
Role Overview
The Deputy Compliance Officer will be supporting the Compliance Officer in owning and running our AML/financial-crime framework. You'll take the lead on KYC escalations, CDD/EDD, and risk-rating/screening processes, while also contributing to broader licensing and regulatory efforts across multiple jurisdictions, including MiCA, VARA, and the US. This role calls for someone comfortable exercising independent judgment in a fast-moving, low-baseline environment.
Key Focus Areas and Key Responsibilities
- Handle KYC escalations and own the CDD/EDD framework, including risk-rating methodology and screening/monitoring processes
- Prepare and recommend Suspicious Activity Reports/Suspicious Transaction Reports (SAR/STRs)
- Support the Compliance Officer on KYB and partner-related escalations
- Contribute to international licensing efforts, including MiCA, VARA, and US regulatory frameworks
- Provide cross-functional support to Business Development on compliance matters
- Assist with the design and delivery of AML training programmes across the organization

Must-Haves for this role
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in AML/financial crime compliance within fintech or crypto, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
- Strong working knowledge of EU MiCA CASP authorisation and governance requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in KYC/CDD/EDD, KYB/UBO verification, PEP/sanctions/adverse-media screening, transaction monitoring, and source-of-funds analysis
- Track record of building or materially contributing to a financial-crime programme, including direct experience engaging with regulators
- Strong fluency in FATF standards and sound judgment on the crypto AML regulatory perimeter
- Working knowledge of GDPR/UK-GDPR as applied to KYC data — including lawful basis assessments, Article 9 (biometric data), Article 35 DPIAs, data retention, and DSAR handling
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and operate effectively in a low-baseline/ambiguous environment
Key Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in the crypto industry and 2+ years of professional writing experience in Germany or the DACH region
- Native fluency in German, and strong professional English, both written and verbal
- Experience covering financial markets, technology, or breaking news
- Familiarity with WordPress, CMS localization workflows, formatting tools, and AI-assisted research tools
- Comfortable working independently and reporting on market performance without heavy oversight
Nice to Have
- CAMS or ICA AML Diploma (CCAS, CGSS, or CIPP-E a plus)
- Experience with blockchain analytics tools (Chainalysis, Elliptic, TRM) and IDV/screening platforms (Sumsub, Onfido, World-Check, ComplyAdvantage, OpenSanctions)
- Familiarity with iGaming affiliate ad-compliance and wallet/swap CASP-perimeter considerations
- Direct SAR/STR filing experience Knowledge of VARA authorisation and governance requirements
