Overview

Third Plateau manages the Democracy Communications Collaborative (DCC), which empowers pro-democracy forces across the ideological spectrum to build durable public support for liberal democracy and democratic values through communications. The Deputy Communications Director will report to the DCC’s Communications Director.

Applicants should read About the DCC before applying.

The Deputy Communications Director will advise and support a network of 100+ DCC partner organizations dedicated to protecting and improving American democracy. • Support the practical implementation of research findings by DCC Partners, interpreting results, socializing findings, and helping Partners apply those findings to their work

    • Work with the Communication Director to develop messaging and communication guidance that provides strategic and tactical insights to a diverse field

    • Manage the DCC’s forthcoming email program, drafting a weekly product that socializes and explains DCC research and messaging, provides examples of content to amplify, and uplifts strong communication efforts from the field

  • Partner Stewardship & Coordination

    • Working closely with the Organizing and Communications Directors, assist the team’s efforts to onboard, support, and organize a broad and diverse coalition of organizations and stakeholders

    • Facilitate and enable, with expert guidance and resources, coordinated audience-first communication campaigns led by DCC Partners

    • Support the DCC’s work to provide Partners with professional development opportunities and capacity-building support for communication

  • Organizational Stewardship

    • Stay up to date on current events and thinking in communications and the democracy field more broadly

    • Tend to internal administrative items (e.g., emails/slack, timekeeping, expenses, HR)

    • Participate in internal activities (i.e., full team meetings, peer learning communities, culture building activities, and regular check-ins with your supervisor)

    • Engage in individual and team wide professional development/learning opportunities

    • Mentor and advise less experienced staff

A compensation committee will meet to discuss potential starting salary within the band by weighing the candidate's expected contribution in terms of previous experience and expertise against current Third Plateau employees. We commit to sharing the reasoning used to determine starting salary with you. The expectation is not for new team members to be hired with a starting salary at the top of the band, but to have a salary that adequately compensates experience and expertise while countering pay inequality and upholding internal parity.
