Chief of Staff

Index Industries is a venture-backed startup, with a mission to build the financial infrastructure for a new era of real estate investing, one that opens the largest asset classes to investors across the globe. The company is currently in stealth and launching its first technology in 2026.

About the Role

We hire builders with founder-like energy who want real ownership and impact. You move fast with good judgment, think from first principles, and get things done end-to-end.

As Chief of Staff, you'll sit at the center of Index Industries, working directly with the CEO and leadership team to turn strategy into execution across Legal, Compliance, Product, Engineering, and Operations. This is a high-visibility, high-autonomy role for someone who wants to help build a fintech company from the inside out, not just support it from the sidelines.

Responsibilities

• Act as a direct extension of the CEO: drive follow-through on strategic priorities, prepare them for high-stakes meetings, and make sure the right things get done, not just discussed.
• Own the company's operating rhythm, including leadership meetings, board materials, all-hands, and OKR tracking, so priorities stay visible and accountable across the company.
• Lead cross-functional projects that don't have an obvious owner, from new market launches to compliance initiatives to internal process fixes, and see them through end-to-end.
• Partner with Legal and Compliance to help translate regulatory strategy into operational reality across the business.
• Build the systems, dashboards, and processes that let a fast-growing fintech company scale without losing speed or clarity.
• Prepare materials and analysis for investor updates, board meetings, and fundraising processes as needed.
• Act as a trusted sounding board and occasional translator between the CEO, leadership team, and the rest of the company.
• Identify what's broken before it becomes a crisis, and fix it or find the person who can.

• A generalist's curiosity paired with an operator's follow-through: you can go deep on a regulatory question in the morning and a hiring plan in the afternoon.
• Low-ego and high-trust: you're as comfortable running the room as you are taking notes in it.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a Chief of Staff, strategy, management consulting, investment banking, or general operating role, ideally with time at a startup or high-growth company.
• Strong written and verbal communication; you can turn a messy problem into a clear memo or a tight board slide.
• Comfort with ambiguity and competing priorities in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.
• Genuine interest in fintech, digital assets, and tokenization, and a willingness to get up to speed quickly on the regulatory landscape around them.
• Strong analytical skills; comfortable working in spreadsheets and data to inform decisions, without needing a dedicated analyst to do it for you.
• Bonus: prior experience at a fintech, crypto, or financial services company.
• Bonus: experience supporting fundraising, board reporting, or investor relations.

Compensation

Competitive Base + equity + a comprehensive benefits package. Chicago-based highly preferred, but open to remote with regular travel to Chicago or New York for offsites and key meetings.
