Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Epic Cadence/Prelude Prior Authorization and Referrals Analyst to support a healthcare organization’s patient access and revenue cycle initiatives. This role will focus on the design, build, testing, implementation, and optimization of Epic workflows supporting scheduling, registration, referrals, prior authorization, and financial assistance.
The ideal candidate will be actively certified in Epic Cadence and Prelude and have hands-on experience with prior authorization, referrals, and the Epic Financial Assistance module. This individual will work closely with patient access, revenue cycle, operational, and technical teams to improve workflows, resolve system issues, and support successful system changes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, test, implement, and maintain Epic Cadence and Prelude functionality.
- Support Epic workflows related to patient scheduling, registration, referrals, prior authorization, and financial assistance.
- Analyze current patient access and revenue cycle workflows and recommend opportunities for improvement.
- Configure and optimize referral and authorization workflows, including referral records, workqueues, status logic, and operational routing.
- Support workflows for obtaining, documenting, tracking, and managing prior authorizations.
- Build and maintain patient, referral, appointment request, and authorization-related workqueues.
- Support financial assistance workflows, including screening, application tracking, documentation, eligibility review, and appropriate routing.
- Partner with patient access, financial counseling, revenue cycle, clinical, and operational stakeholders to gather and document requirements.
- Translate business and operational requirements into functional specifications and Epic system configuration.
- Support Cadence scheduling functionality, including visit types, provider templates, appointment requests, scheduling rules, and decision trees.
- Support Prelude registration workflows, including patient demographics, coverage information, registration rules, warnings, and account-related processes.
- Perform unit, integrated, regression, and user acceptance testing.
- Develop test scripts, document results, track defects, and coordinate issue resolution.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, production incidents, service requests, and enhancement tickets.
- Assist with system upgrades, application updates, workflow redesign, and optimization initiatives.
- Coordinate application changes with integrated Epic teams and related revenue cycle applications.
- Maintain build documentation, workflow diagrams, testing materials, issue logs, and operational procedures.
- Provide knowledge transfer and application guidance to internal analysts and operational teams.
- Communicate project progress, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Active Epic Cadence certification.
- Active Epic Prelude certification.
- Previous hands-on experience with the Epic Financial Assistance module.
- Experience supporting Epic prior authorization and referral workflows.
- Experience with Epic application build, configuration, testing, implementation, optimization, and production support.
- Strong understanding of patient access, scheduling, registration, insurance verification, referrals, and authorization processes.
- Experience building and maintaining patient access, referral, appointment request, or authorization workqueues.
- Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into functional system solutions.
- Experience developing and executing unit, integrated, regression, and user acceptance testing.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate with patient access, financial counseling, revenue cycle, operational, and technical teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare IT environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Epic Referrals and Authorization certification or demonstrated advanced experience with the application.
- Epic Financial Assistance certification, accreditation, badge, or prior module experience.
- Experience supporting prior authorization workflows across hospital and ambulatory services.
- Experience with referral system definitions, referral templates, procedure records, authorization requirements, and status assignment logic.
- Experience with financial clearance, patient estimates, eligibility, benefits verification, or financial counseling workflows.
- Knowledge of Real-Time Eligibility, Welcome, MyChart, Grand Central, Resolute Professional Billing, or Resolute Hospital Billing.
- Experience creating and maintaining Cadence decision trees, visit types, provider templates, scheduling rules, and workqueues.
- Experience supporting Epic implementations, upgrades, go-lives, system restoration, or enterprise optimization projects.
- Experience working within a pediatric, academic, or large multi-facility healthcare organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
