Job Description

The Buyer specializing in recycled copper is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing recycled copper materials to support manufacturing operations. This role ensures a reliable supply of quality materials while optimizing cost, maintaining inventory levels, and adhering to sustainability and regulatory standards. The position requires close collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders to align purchasing activities with operational and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Source and qualify suppliers of recycled copper and other non-ferrous metals to support manufacturing needs.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with domestic and international suppliers to achieve cost-effective and reliable supply.
  • Purchase recycled copper materials in line with production requirements, quality standards, and inventory targets.
  • Evaluate and manage supplier performance, including quality, delivery, and service, and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Monitor copper scrap grades, pricing mechanisms, and market dynamics to inform purchasing decisions and strategies.
  • Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely processing.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, production, and inventory teams to align procurement activities with demand planning and operational schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier agreements in ERP and related systems.
  • Analyze purchasing data and inventory levels to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal policies, sustainability goals, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to provide updates on material availability, lead times, and market conditions.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of buying experience, with a strong focus on recycled copper or non-ferrous metals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of copper scrap grades, pricing mechanisms, and market dynamics.
  • Proven negotiation and contract management experience.
  • Experience working with domestic and/or international suppliers.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret market data, pricing trends, and inventory metrics.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple suppliers, purchase orders, and deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for supplier and internal stakeholder interactions.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems for managing purchasing and inventory data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis, reporting, and tracking procurement activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in purchasing, procurement, and supply chain operations.
  • Hands-on experience with purchase order creation, tracking, and reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with inventory management principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

Remote but candidate MUST live in Texas or Louisiana. Travel will be needed in this role if the client doesn't live in the state you reside in (about 50%).

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sealy, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $52.00/hr.
