Help protect British Columbia’s irreplaceable biodiversity. NTBC (The Nature Trust of British Columbia) seeks to diversify its Board and Board Committees to help guide the future of biodiversity conservation in British Columbia.

Why NTBC?

NTBC is a leading charitable land conservation organization dedicated to conserving BC’s biodiversity through securement, restoration, and management of ecologically significant lands.  Since 1971, we have secured over 185,000 acres of conservation land for future generations. The treasured landscapes we have protected forever include the Xwésam (Salmon) River on Vancouver Island, Boundary Bay in the Lower Mainland, White Lake Basin in the Okanagan, and the 10,000-acre Hoodoos conservation complex in the Kootenays.

About the Board

NTBC’s Board of Directors is a volunteer governance Board. Supporting the Board are several Committees, including Audit, Finance & Investment, Biodiversity & Land Management, Fundraising, Governance, and Indigenous Relationships. The Board provides strategic oversight and ensures that the organization remains effective, financially sound, and true to its conservation mission.  The historical foundation of our Board is business and science leaders from across BC. NTBC is committed to building a board that reflects the breadth and diversity of BC.

Our Board is looking to broaden our skills and experience in:

  • Fundraising and Development
  • Board Governance
  • Legal and Compliance
  • Policy and Advocacy
  • Real estate, including Real Estate Law
  • Leadership Development
  • Community Engagement
  • Strategic Planning
  • Indigenous Relationships

Geographic representation is important to further our biodiversity goals in the Kootenays, North and Central Interior, South Okanagan, Greater Vancouver & the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

NTBC is currently looking to add:

  • 2 Board members (June 2027)
  • New Committee members especially in Indigenous Relationships and Fundraising.

Commitment

The Board holds two half-day remote and two in-person meetings a year (one full day meeting in Vancouver and one 2-3 day trip elsewhere in BC). Ad hoc remote meetings may be scheduled throughout the year. Each Board member is also asked to join a Board Committee which meets virtually 4 times per year. Directors are also asked to attend NTBC fundraising events in their area.

Board members are appointed annually at the June Annual General Meeting; Directors are eligible for a maximum of eight, one-year terms.

Committee members may be appointed as non-Director members. This is a great way to contribute your expertise, get acquainted with NTBC, and create a stepping stone to Board membership.

How to apply

We welcome expressions of interest from leaders who are passionate about conserving BC’s natural habitats through land protection, restoration, and management. We especially encourage applications from:

  • Indigenous leaders
  • Women leaders
  • Mid-Career leaders
  • Leaders that live or work in the Kootenays

Please submit a brief bio/letter identifying the relevant skills that you would bring to the Board or Committee, your interest in NTBC, plus a professional bio or resume.

Applications will be reviewed through November 2026, with top candidates being contacted by December 2026 to begin the interview process. Applicants will be kept in the pipeline for future Board and Committee recruitment.

We encourage applications from underrepresented communities in the environmental sector, including racialized persons, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, persons identifying as 2SLGBTQIA+, and all those who contribute to a diverse society.
