Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Binding Authority Underwriter to join a growing underwriting team focused on delivering profitable business through strong broker relationships, disciplined underwriting, and strategic portfolio management.What will your job entail?
Underwrite and price new business, renewals, and endorsements within delegated binding authority.
Evaluate submissions and exposures to determine appropriate pricing, coverage terms, and underwriting strategy.
Select and verify classification codes, rating exposures, and premium calculations.
Apply underwriting judgment to determine credits, debits, and pricing adjustments that support profitable business outcomes.
Determine appropriate coverage forms, endorsements, and policy structure based on risk characteristics.
Clearly communicate quote terms, conditions, and underwriting requirements to brokers.
Maintain thorough and accurate underwriting documentation and decision rationale within company systems.
Coordinate timely policy issuance and endorsement processing.
Order and review inspection reports to validate exposures and assess risk quality.
Manage broker, customer, and agency relationships to support retention and new business growth.
Monitor production pipelines and identify opportunities to expand the portfolio.
Participate in stewardship meetings, broker visits, marketing initiatives, and industry events.
Collaborate with underwriting colleagues and cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive solutions for complex risks.
Ensure underwriting decisions align with company guidelines, authority levels, regulatory requirements, and portfolio objectives.

This role offers ongoing opportunities to deepen underwriting expertise, expand market knowledge, and strengthen broker relationships. Underwriters gain exposure to a variety of risks and work collaboratively with experienced professionals who support technical development and portfolio growth.
The position also provides visibility across underwriting, distribution, and business leadership functions, creating opportunities for continued career progression within the organization.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
Minimum of 5 years of Binding Authority underwriting experience.
Experience underwriting new business, renewals, and endorsements.
Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, policy forms, coverage analysis, and underwriting principles.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate risk exposures and make sound underwriting decisions.
Experience managing broker relationships and negotiating coverage terms and pricing.
Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced underwriting environment.
State P&C and/or surplus lines licensing requirements as applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field.
CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) designation.
CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation.
Experience managing a profitable underwriting portfolio within delegated authority.
Existing broker relationships and market-facing experience.
Experience participating in business development, marketing, and stewardship activities.

The target salary range for this position is $78,750.00 - $80,000.00 annually.The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
