As a BI & Analytics Developer with Crescent Electric Supply Company, you will partner with business stakeholders to flesh out business questions, works with the data platform team to identify and structure the underlying data, and develops best-in-class data visualizations — through both ad hoc analysis and self-service dashboards — using Tableau. You will servce as the bridge between the business and the data platform team, enabling other business teams with data, tools, and best practices for effective decision-making.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Requirements Gathering: Partner with business stakeholders to understand and clarify business questions, defining reporting and analytical requirements.

  • Data Structuring: Work with the Data Engineer and SQL Developer(s) to identify and structure the data needed to answer business questions.

  • Visualization Development: Design and build best-in-class dashboards and visualizations in Tableau, following data visualization best practices.

  • Self-Service Design & Delivery: Design and deliver intuitive, well-governed self-service dashboards that empower business users to explore data independently and confidently.

  • Ad Hoc Analysis: Conduct ad hoc data analysis to support development and decision-making as needed, including time-sensitive business questions.

  • Governance & Quality: Ensure dashboards and reports align with data governance standards and reflect a single source of truth.

  • Platform Support & Administration: Accountable for the ongoing support, administration, and user adoption of the analytics platforms, including Tableau, ensuring platform stability, appropriate access and security, and effective use across the business.

  • Continuous Improvement: Gather feedback from business users and iterate on dashboards and reports to improve usability and impact.

  • Visual Analytics Best Practices: Establish, apply, and share visual analytics design standards — chart selection, layout, interactivity, and performance — partnering with business teams to build broader data visualization literacy across the organization.

  • Peer Education & Enablement: Educate and support peers and partner teams on visual analytics and dashboard best practices, both informally and through structured knowledge sharing.

  • AI-Enabled Insights & Visualization: Leverage AI tools (such as Claude) to expand methods of generating and sharing insights and to enhance the design and delivery of visualizations, while adhering to company guidelines on data handling.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Analytics, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3-5 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data visualization roles.

  • Hands-on experience building dashboards and reports in Tableau (required).

  • Tableau certification a plus.

  • Strong working knowledge of visual analytics and data visualization best practices (chart selection, layout, interactivity, accessibility).

  • Strong SQL skills for querying and validating data.

  • Experience supporting or administering enterprise analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau Server/Cloud), including user provisioning, permissions, and driving user adoption.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous business questions into clear analytical and visualization requirements.

  • Experience designing self-service dashboards for non-technical business users.

  • Ability to teach and coach others on visual analytics and dashboard best practices across teams.

  • Interest or hands-on experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., Claude) to accelerate analysis, generate insights, or enhance visualization design a plus.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience partnering with data engineering or platform teams to source and structure data.

  • Experience with ERP or distribution/supply chain data (Eclipse/Epicor) a plus.

  • Strong business acumen and consultative approach to stakeholder relationships.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Extensive use of technology, such as phone, computer, and keyboard.

  • Close vision with clear vision at 20 inches or less.

  • Color vision with the ability to identify and distinguish colors.

  • May be required to work more than 40 hours per week.
