The Associate General Counsel provides legal strategy and advice on regulatory compliance, commercial contracts, and corporate governance for a mortgage lending firm. They oversee default servicing, litigation, and REO property management while partnering with executive leadership on operational compliance.
The Opportunity
Visio Lending is looking for a business-minded attorney to join its in-house legal team as Associate General Counsel. This is a senior, high-impact leadership role, supporting legal strategy across regulatory compliance, commercial contracts, capital markets, default servicing, litigation management, and corporate governance. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel will serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team, partner closely with business leaders across Sales, Operations, Finance, Information Technology, Vendor Management and Human Resources, and oversee the Company's Default Servicing Paralegal, REO Property Manager and Compliance Analyst. The ideal candidate is an experienced lawyer with strong business judgment, who is energized by variety, eager to build, and has a real growth mindset.
What You'll Do
Advise and counsel the business on federal and state laws and regulations impacting mortgage lending, financial services and employment--including ECOA, FCRA, FHA, BSA, HMDA, SCRA, consumer protection, anti-money laundering and data privacy, and proactively monitor legislative and regulatory developments to anticipate business impact
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, master service agreements, and non-disclosure agreements, and advise internal stakeholders on contract terms, transactional risk and legal and business implications
Support underwriting guideline updates, and advise on legal escalations and other matters subject to enhanced underwriting
Provide legal support for the Company's technology initiatives, including implementation and use of new vendor systems, AI/ML and other proprietary technology solutions
Direct the Company's default servicing, litigation, foreclosure, and bankruptcy strategy, including oversight of foreclosure and bankruptcy files to ensure timely, accurate resolution and trend reporting
Manage third party servicer and outside counsel to ensure loan files are managed and resolved in accordance with applicable guidelines
Oversee matters related to the preservation, listing, and disposition of REO (real estate owned) properties, and coordinate the foreclosure-to-REO handoff process
Collaborate with the Capital Markets team on securitization transactions, whole loan sales, warehouse agreements and corporate debt financings
Support board governance matters, including reviewing meeting agendas and materials, drafting and reviewing board and committee meeting minutes/resolutions and overseeing entity management
Partner with executive leadership and the board to strengthen governance, controls, and operational compliance across the organization

Salary Range: Commiserate with experience
What We Are Looking For:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing
8+ years of relevant legal experience in the financial services industry, including as an in-house counsel
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build relationships and trust across an organization
Proven negotiation skills, business acumen and the ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities
Ability to maintain discretion with confidential and sensitive information
Ability to review and maintain documentation with strong attention to detail
