AI Summary

The role involves providing technical oversight and certification support for global aquaculture and seafood programmes. You will manage certification schemes, ensure auditor competence, and collaborate with stakeholders to maintain accreditation standards.

Are you passionate about aquaculture, seafood and certification?

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of globally recognised certification schemes such as MarinTrust, Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) and GLOBALG.A.P., helping shape the future of responsible aquaculture and seafood production worldwide. These schemes cover a range of environments including aquaculture farms, hatcheries, feed mills, seafood processing facilities and marine ingredient supply chains.

As Aquaculture & Seafood Assurance Scheme Lead, you'll provide technical oversight and certification support across NSF's Aquaculture & Seafood programmes, working closely with auditors, clients, accreditation bodies and scheme owners around the world. You'll play a key role in technical governance, certification decisions, auditor competence and scheme performance, helping ensure programmes are delivered consistently and in line with accreditation requirements.

This could be a great fit for experienced aquaculture and seafood auditors looking to move into a broader technical leadership role while remaining closely connected to the industry. Whether you currently work for a Certification Body or as an independent contractor, we'd love to hear from you if you have experience auditing against the relevant schemes and meet the required qualifications and experience.

What We Offer:

  • Remote working: Work from home, with support from a collaborative UK-based and global team.

  • Global impact: Take ownership of internationally recognised schemes, work with stakeholders around the world, and help shape the future direction of aquaculture and seafood certification programmes.

  • Balanced travel: Remain connected to the industry through international and regional travel, while benefiting from significantly less travel than many full-time auditing roles.

  • Comprehensive benefits package: Health cover, death-in-service benefit, company sick pay scheme and income protection.

  • Wellbeing support: Access to our Employee Assistance Programme and an annual paid Mental Wellness Day.

  • Volunteering time: Paid time off to support causes you care about.

Responsibilities

Including, but not limited to:

  • Providing technical ownership of the certification scheme(s).

  • Supporting certification activities, technical reviews and certification decisions.

  • Providing technical guidance and interpretation to auditors, clients and internal teams.

  • Supporting auditor qualification, approval and competence activities.

  • Working with scheme owners, accreditation bodies and stakeholders globally.

  • Monitoring scheme performance and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Conducting audits where required to maintain competence and support programme delivery.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within aquaculture and/or seafood auditing, certification, standards management or assurance scheme operations (this is a scheme requirement).
  • Experience auditing against at least two of the following schemes: MarinTrust, Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), GLOBALG.A.P., ASC, or equivalent seafood assurance schemes
  • Lead Auditor qualification (or equivalent).
  • Seafood HACCP certification (or equivalent)
  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in aquaculture, fisheries, food science, biology or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of certification standards, accreditation requirements and ISO 17065.
  • Ability to balance scheme management responsibilities with auditing, technical review and certification activities.
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to make objective, evidence-based decisions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
