We are now hiring for an Advanced Functional Specialist to join our team! The successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality, safe, and effective clinical services by embedding The Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS) Clinical Governance principles across all service lines to assure the safety of the claimant/customer, our health professionals, the client and the business. The role ensures that clinical risks are identified, assessed, and mitigated, and that learning from incidents is translated into practice improvements:

Act as a change agent to improve systems, processes, and procedures requiring clinical input.

Identify Clinical Risks and Clinical Incidents using appropriate reporting mechanisms.

Support the investigation and resolution of clinician complaints.

Support safeguarding decisions in line with internal Safeguarding Policy.

Ensure compliance with professional standards and professional body requirements.

Assist with clinically focused queries and escalate issues appropriately

All activities will be undertaken in line with Capita Policy, Industry Best Practice, Government and NHS Policy.

Job Description:

What you'll be doing:

  • You will act as a clinical gate keeper adhering to HAAS Clinical Governance Standard Operating Procedures, identifying individual learning needs as well as wider clinical trends.  Supporting the Senior Lead Functional Specialists with developing a positive culture of continuous improvement within Capita.  

  • As capacity requires, your role will consist of a series of Clinical Governance mechanisms including but not limited to safeguarding, unexpected findings, protecting vulnerable claimants, clinical risk and incident management, clinical review of complaints, management of approvals and revocations, assurance of professional registrations, professional body investigations, tribunals, and professional standards.

  • You will contribute to up-to date documentation of all assurance mechanisms, actively look for common themes and improvement opportunities, escalating these whilst also suggesting ideas for enhancement to support with the creation of clinical assurance material.

  • Attend internal and external meetings as necessary, representing the Clinical Governance team as directed.

  • Assist with all clinically focused queries and escalate to the Senior Lead Functional Specialist as necessary. Work to agreed timescales/deadlines with this fast-paced role.​​

  • Working within the Clinical Governance, as required you will be expected to support all aspects of this area. Contributing to specific Clinical Governance projects.

  • There is a contractual requirement to contribute 10% of your working hours per month to complete PIP assessments or the audit function in your specific area of approval.

What we're looking for:

  • Be an experienced UK registered Health Professional with a minimum of two years post-registration experience and current and unrestricted professional registration with any of the following bodies: GMC, NMC, HCPC.

  • DWP Approved assessor in PIP

  • Evidence of working within Clinical Governance, Quality Support or Clinical Training.

  • Evidence of achieving an 85% or above FFP quality performance or equivalent (there is a requirement this quality standard must be maintained in post as per the performance matrix).

  • Strong awareness of Clinical Governance and its function within the business.

  • Have a detailed knowledge of the requirements of the PIP assessment process including the ability to think clinically, operationally & demonstrate commercial awareness for delivery.

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the physiological, pathological, social, and cultural issues which underpin Health and Welfare contracts

  • Experience of making difficult decisions under pressure

  • Maintain and evidence personal CPD and ensure continue professional registration.

  • Have excellent written and verbal skills

  • Ability to build relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.

About HAAS

The Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS) arranges and carries out assessments for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Department for Communities (DfC). The purpose of the assessment is to understand how an illness or disability affects a person’s daily life. After the assessment, the DWP/DfC makes the decision as to whether the individual will receive any benefits. The Health Assessment Advisory Service is delivered on behalf of the DWP & DfC by Capita.
