Position Summary

The Advanced Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and sustaining chemical and manufacturing processes to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and cost performance. This role partners with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, EHS, and Supply Chain teams to troubleshoot process issues, implement process improvements, support new product introductions, and ensure compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
This role is part of a global Consumables Technical Operations team providing network-level technical capability team to accelerate problem solving, improve plant performance, and establish engineering and reliability foundations needed for a scalable, high-performing manufacturing network.
The Chemical Process Engineer utilizes engineering principles and data-driven decision-making to enhance process capability, increase throughput, reduce waste, and support operational excellence initiatives.

 

This is a remote-based role with up to 75% travel. 

What You'll do as an Advanced Chemical Process Engineer

  • Troubleshoot and optimize chemical processes and manufacturing systems to improve operational performance. Analyze process data to identify opportunities for increased efficiency, reduced variability, and improved product quality. Review process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mass and energy balances, and process specifications.
  • Evaluate process capabilities and implement solutions to improve yield, throughput, and reliability. Support process scale-up activities from laboratory or pilot operations to commercial manufacturing. Develop and implement effective, practical, scalable standards for Chemical Process & Formulation Engineering network wide to drive performance.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to manufacturing operations. Troubleshoot process deviations, equipment failures, and production bottlenecks. Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to improve equipment performance and process reliability. Monitor key process performance indicators and recommend enhancements
  • Lead process improvement projects focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction. Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Operational Excellence methodologies to improve performance. Reduce waste, energy consumption, and manufacturing costs through data-driven initiatives. Identify and implement automation and process control improvements.
  • Lead or support capital and operational improvement projects. Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and technical specifications. Coordinate equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, validation, and startup activities.
  • Manage project execution to ensure completion within budget and timeline requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), and risk assessments.
  • Support audits, inspections, validations, and other regulatory compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to address process-related quality issues and implement improvements.

The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Required Qualificiations

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Chemical Engineering or related degree
  • 8 years process engineering, manufacturing engineering, chemical production, pharmaceutical, medical device, specialty chemicals, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of: 
    • Chemical formulation engineering
    • Thermodynamics
    • Heat and mass transfer
    • Fluid mechanics
    • Process control systems
    • Chemical processing equipment
  • Experience with process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis techniques.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, PFDs, and P&IDs.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt 
  • Experience with process validation and change management systems 
  • Familiarity with ERP and manufacturing execution systems (MES) 
  • Experience supporting industrial manufacturing processes
  • Experience with process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong Analytical and problem Solving abilities
  • Project management/organizational skills
  • Strong attention to details and commitment to quality

Pay range for this opportunity is $107,525.00 - $139,150.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation.

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
