Job Description

We are currently hiring adjunct faculty to teach SPAC 400- Introduction to Space Navigation.

Course Description

This course will introduce the student to basic elements of space navigation at the introductory physics level. The consequences of Newton's law of gravitation and central force motion, including Kepler's three laws of planetary motion, are explained. The physical characteristics of the solar system and the Earth/Moon system are reviewed. The basic methods and techniques of navigating in near-Earth orbit and the Moon and planets are described.

Applicable Professional Certification

Rated/certified military operations officer or civil equivalent for satellite operations, command and control (C2) of satellite systems, or orbital mechanics or any professional certification related to satellite spacecraft operations.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Doctor’s or Master’s degree in teaching discipline, or a Masters’s degree with a concentration in teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).

Desired Professional Training or Experience

Experience at a Military / Civilian organization operating space systems (including unmanned/manned space systems). Active membership in professional organizations in engineering, i.e., National Academy of Engineering, National Society of Professional Engineers or other organizations in fields related to development, testing, operation, training, or maintenance of unmanned/manned aerial systems, robotic, or related technology. Active membership in professional organizations in astronomical/astrophysical sciences, e.g., American Astronomical Society, Royal Astronomical Society (UK), or other organizations in fields related to application of unmanned/manned aerial systems and sensors in space.
