AI Summary

The Accounting Specialist handles full-cycle bookkeeping, including reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close for a group of clients. They also maintain process documentation and coordinate with client managers to ensure high-quality client communication and service.

About Nimbl

Nimbl provides the departments a business needs to scale, all under one roof.

Most growing companies stitch together accounting, IT, global staffing, and strategy across in-house teams and multiple vendors. It works, until growth creates friction. We bring those functions into one coordinated system, so businesses can scale without losing clarity or control.

With 100+ team members across the U.S., Philippines, and Latin America, we operate as one aligned team serving ambitious business owners. We build infrastructure that creates freedom: freedom to focus on what matters, freedom to grow without chaos, and freedom to step back when the time is right.

Inside Nimbl, that same principle applies. We offer remote flexibility and real autonomy, paired with clear accountability, leadership development, and room to expand your impact.

Freedom here isn’t about comfort. It’s about progression.

If you’re serious about growth, for clients and for yourself, you’ll find it here.

The Position

You handle the day-to-day accounting for a group of growing clients: reconciliations, categorization, and month-end close are core to this role, and you're trusted to run most of it independently. You follow documented close workflows to complete assigned bookkeeping, applying sound judgment where the process calls for it, then review your own work before it reaches the senior accountant. You also serve as a support point of contact for client communication, working closely with your client manager to ensure a consistent, high-quality client experience.

How We Work (Important)

We charge clients a flat monthly fee (not by the hour). To deliver excellent work and keep pricing fair, we operate with time budgets.

Support model

  • Accounting Specialists (you) handle as much of the recurring bookkeeping and reconciliations as can be delegated, using documented close workflows

  • Your partner is a Client Manager, who leads the close end-to-end and reviews the work and financials for accuracy and completeness, while also owning the client relationship through clear communication, responsiveness, and follow-through.

  • Each client also has a Controller, an industry-focused technical leader who supports escalations and judgment calls, clarifies quality standards, helps stabilize onboarding or messy clients, and collaborates on scope or pricing resets when needed.

Your responsibilities

  • Full-cycle bookkeeping for your assigned clients: AP, AR, bank and credit card reconciliations, journal entries, and transaction categorization

  • Balance sheet accounts tied to schedules, where discrepancies are researched and resolved, not only flagged

  • Month-end close and management reports

  • Staff review at close: bringing together everything you have entered during the month end, reviewing it yourself before it reaches the senior accountant

  • Direct client communication in coordination with your client manager

  • Write and maintain process documentation for the tasks you own

  • Simple to advanced cleanups, with some direction

  • Depending on the client engagement, your work may also include:

  • Creating and sending client invoices

  • Entering vendor bills and preparing payments for approval

  • Preparing payroll for review and processing

Not every client includes all of these. Assignments are matched based on client needs and individual strengths.

Working Hours and Growth Potential

Full-time, salaried (40 hours per week). This role is a strong fit if you're early in your accounting career and want to build real, hands-on experience across a variety of clients, workflows, and account types.

The first 3 to 6 months is a ramp period while you learn our systems, tools, and the specific accounts you're supporting. As you build fluency and consistency, you'll take on more complex client work, larger cleanups, and greater ownership within your assigned accounts.

For those who want it, there's real room to grow here. Strong performance opens the door to more advanced client work, mentorship from senior accountants and your client manager, and a clear path toward greater responsibility over time.

Availability

Because Nimbl is a fully remote company, team members have flexibility in how they structure their workdays. At the same time, remote work requires strong communication, reliability, and clear alignment around availability.

In general, team members should maintain regular working hours that reasonably align with U.S. business hours, with availability Monday through Friday.

Requirements

Core accounting experience (must have)

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field

  • At least 1–2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or general accounting experience

  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online. Familiarity with Bill.com, Gusto, or similar tools is a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Reliability with deadlines. Close dates and client deliverables are met when promised, and when something looks like it might slip, you raise it early rather than after the fact.

  • Comfortable asking questions when something is unclear instead of assuming, and consistent in following through on review notes

How you work (must have)

  • You communicate clearly with clients and keep agreements. When something goes wrong, you own it and have a plan.

  • You track time and manage to time budgets, and understand that the scope of the engagement dictates the level of detail and service provided.

  • You care about accuracy and completeness within scope.

  • You reduce rework systematically. When an error surfaces, you fix the process, not just the entry, improving efficiency over time.

Accounting experience (preferred)

  • Experience with or strong working knowledge of both cash and accrual basis accounting

  • Exposure to more complex client accounts or advanced cleanups

  • Sales tax filings, multi-entity or multi-client handling

  • Any experience using AI tools in an accounting workflow. We are actively building AI tool use into how the team works.

Compensation

Full-time, salary: $37,440 to $47,840 per year depending on experience
