The role involves managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for accruals, investments, leases, and intercompany activities. You will also drive process improvements, automation, and control strengthening to support public readiness and audit requirements.

We believe that the way people interact with their finances will drastically improve in the next few years. We’re dedicated to empowering this transformation by building the tools and experiences that thousands of developers use to create their own products. Plaid powers the tools millions of people rely on to live a healthier financial life. We work with thousands of companies like Venmo, SoFi, several of the Fortune 500, and many of the largest banks to make it easy for people to connect their financial accounts to the apps and services they want to use. Plaid’s network covers 12,000 financial institutions across the US, Canada, UK and Europe. Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Seattle, Washington D.C., Raleigh, London, and Amsterdam.

Role Overview

You will be a key contributor to Accounting Operations and own the accounting for accruals, investments, leases, intercompany activity, and cost allocations. This includes preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling accounts, analyzing balances and trends, and ensuring these areas are complete and accurate each month, quarter, and year-end. You will be the point of contact for your areas during the close and the annual audit. Over time, your responsibilities may expand into other areas of the close as the business and team grow.

You will also help build scalable, efficient processes that support Plaid’s growth and public readiness. This includes documenting and strengthening controls in your areas, shortening the close, improving the quality and consistency of supporting documentation, and identifying opportunities to automate manual work. You will partner with the broader Accounting team, FP&A, Strategic Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Marketing, and external auditors along the way.

Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close for accruals, investments, leases, intercompany activity and cost allocations, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.

  • Prepare and maintain intercompany and consolidation entries across Plaid’s entities, including cost-plus arrangements and FX revaluation and elimination.

  • Partner with FP&A, Strategic Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Marketing, and vendors to ensure spend is accrued completely and accurately and that balances are well understood.

  • Identify and implement process, automation, and control improvements in your areas to shorten the close and support SOX 404 readiness.

  • Serve as the primary contact for your areas during the annual audit, preparing support and responding to auditor requests.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting, with a deep understanding of US GAAP; CPA preferred.

  • Experience at a public company or with IPO readiness

  • Familiarity with SOX compliance and the ability to produce audit-ready workpapers;

  • Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency accounting;

  • Proficiency with NetSuite, Zip, T&E and close management platforms is a plus

  • Problem solver and first-principles thinker with a bias for action, creativity, and a willingness to challenge conventional approaches.

  • Curious, fast learner with a growth mindset who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.

  • Hands-on, can-do attitude, willing to roll up their sleeves, dive into details, and own execution.

  • Proven change agent with a track record of improving processes, leveraging technology, and scaling operations.

  • Strong communicator and collaborator who can effectively engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
