Accounting Manager

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm EST
About Convoy Finance
We like working with people who move fast, think for themselves, and care about doing great work. That’s pretty much how we run Convoy.
We’re a small finance and accounting firm working with technology, SaaS, fintech and Web3 companies across Canada and internationally. Our clients are ambitious businesses, and we work directly with the founders and finance teams building them.
That means we’re not just looking at numbers all day. We get to see what’s happening inside growing companies and help the people running them make better decisions. One week you might be leading a month-end close, and the next you could be helping a client work through a reporting issue, improve their financial processes or solve something completely new.
We’re a small team, too. Most of us are based in Toronto, with a few people working remotely around the world. There’s very little bureaucracy, decisions happen quickly, and good ideas can actually turn into action.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an Accounting Manager who can take ownership, think beyond the books and be a trusted partner to our clients.
You’ll oversee accounting work across a portfolio of growing companies and work directly with international clients, founders, CFOs and senior finance professionals.
You’ll be responsible for making sure the accounting is accurate, the work gets done well and client deliverables stay on track. But we also expect you to look beyond the numbers: understand what’s happening in the business, identify issues before they become problems and bring ideas to the table.
This is a hands-on management role. You’ll still be close to the accounting, while also reviewing work, guiding team members, managing priorities and helping clients navigate more complex accounting and finance questions.
Our clients move quickly, and so do we. There will be deadlines, competing priorities and new problems to solve. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable operating with a high degree of independence and can make good decisions without needing everything mapped out for them.
As an Accounting Manager, you’ll have significant ownership over your client relationships and the opportunity to grow into broader advisory, financial management and leadership responsibilities.
What You’ll Do
You’ll take ownership of:
Requirements
You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field and 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, with significant experience in a client-facing accounting, public accounting, audit or advisory environment.
Big Four experience is required for this role. We’re looking for someone who has been exposed to high standards of quality, complex accounting work and demanding client environments, and who is ready to take that experience into a more hands-on, ownership-driven role.
You’re confident owning full-cycle accounting, month-end close and financial reporting, while also reviewing work, managing priorities and ensuring that client deliverables are accurate and delivered on time.
You’re comfortable working directly with clients, founders, CFOs and senior finance professionals. You communicate clearly in English and can explain what the numbers mean — not just what the numbers are. This role is 100% in English, both internally and with clients.
You’re also someone who likes to figure things out. If something looks wrong, you investigate it. If you don’t know the answer, you find it. If there’s a better way to do something, you speak up. You’re comfortable making decisions, taking ownership and working independently without needing every step spelled out.
You have experience reviewing or mentoring other accountants and are comfortable providing guidance, giving feedback and taking responsibility for the quality of the work delivered by your team.
Experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Taxprep or CaseWare is a plus, as is experience working with SaaS, technology, fintech or Web3 companies.
A CPA designation or active CPA pursuit is also a plus.
Benefits
You’ll work with interesting companies, smart people and problems that don’t always come with an instruction manual.
You’ll have direct exposure to founders and senior finance leaders and get to see how growing companies actually operate. Because we’re small, your work is visible and your ideas can have an impact.
We’re remote-friendly, with team members working from Toronto and different parts of the world. We also make time for team lunches, happy hours and, when the numbers are good, the occasional team trip.
It’s fast-paced. It’s challenging. And it’s definitely not boring.
If you want a role where you can keep learning, take real ownership and grow beyond traditional accounting, we’d like to hear from you.
USD 2,300–3,000 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
This is a full-time independent contractor position.
