What You Can Expect

Join the Data Mesh team at Zimmer Biomet and get hands on experience building a real enterprise data platform in a regulated life sciences environment. This internship offers direct exposure to modern data platform engineering, data product development, and AI enablement on Snowflake. You will work alongside senior engineers and report directly to the Director of Data Mesh, contributing to production systems that serve business domains across Zimmer Biomet. The centerpiece of this internship is leading the build of our internal Data Product Portal, a Streamlit application that serves as the catalog and discovery layer for the company's data mesh. This is not a side project. It is a real product used by real teams.

How You'll Create Impact

• Lead the development of the Data Product Portal (Streamlit), building the catalog, discovery, and detail pages that help business teams find and understand available data products across the organization.
• Contribute to data product onboarding workflows, including database provisioning, schema setup, and role configuration using infrastructure as code (Pulumi).
• Assist with platform observability, including building dashboards and reports for cost attribution, usage monitoring, and RBAC compliance.
• Support Cortex AI enablement work, including semantic view development, Cortex Agent configuration, and testing AI capabilities against real data products.
• Write and maintain platform documentation, knowledge base articles, and operational runbooks that enable domain teams to work with the platform independently.
• Participate in architecture discussions and team planning, gaining exposure to how platform decisions are made in a regulated enterprise environment.
• Learn and apply data mesh principles including domain ownership, federated governance, and data product lifecycle management.

What Makes You Stand Out

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field
• Familiarity with Python and SQL (coursework or projects)
• Interest in cloud data platforms, data engineering, or data product development
• Experience with Streamlit, Flask, or similar Python web frameworks is a plus but not required
• Exposure to Snowflake, dbt, Pulumi, Terraform, or similar tools through coursework or personal projects
• Curiosity about AI and machine learning applied to data platforms
• Strong written communication skills and comfort with documentation
• Self starter who can take ownership of a project and drive it forward with guidance

Your Background

• Must be actively enrolled in an academic program for the entire duration of the assignment.
  • Bachelor's or Master's program in databases, cloud computing, or software engineering
  • Junior or Senior standing in a technical degree program 
• Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week) throughout the co-op session
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship
