Position Overview
The Warranty Technical Specialist is responsible for the technical evaluation, validation, and support of warranty claims across a fleet of battery energy storage systems. This role partners closely with operations, engineering, and OEMs to assess failures, verify warranty applicability, and ensure accurate and timely resolution of technical issues.
This position blends hands-on system knowledge with analytical and data-driven decision-making to maximize warranty recovery while improving asset reliability and vendor accountability.
Primary Responsibilities
- Technical Warranty Evaluation
- Review and assess warranty claims for technical validity based on system performance, failure data, and contract terms.
- Support claim preparation with technical justification, evidence, and supporting documentation.
- Validate OEM root cause analyses and proposed corrective actions.
- Failure Analysis & Troubleshooting
- Use SCADA/EMS data, logs, and field reports to diagnose issues and identify failure modes.
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) using structured methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, FMEA).
- OEM & Vendor Technical Interface
- Act as a key technical contact for OEMs, system integrators, and suppliers on warranty matters.
- Participate in technical discussions, claim reviews, and resolution planning.
- Track and verify implementation of corrective actions and repairs.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with:
- Operations and monitoring teams for issue identification
- Field service teams for inspection and repair validation
- Warranty administration for claim tracking and documentation
- Asset management for performance and financial impact assessment
- Provide technical guidance to support claim escalation and resolution.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare technical summaries, incident reports, and claim support packages.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of analyses, findings, and communications.
- Contribute to recurring reports on warranty trends, failure modes, and vendor performance.
- Support audit activities with clear technical evidence.
- Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring failures and systemic issues across the fleet.
- Recommend operational changes, design improvements, or maintenance strategies to reduce recurrence.
- Contribute to lessons learned documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Support refining warranty specifications and requirements for future projects.
- Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety standards and procedures when reviewing events or coordinating field work.
- Support investigations into safety-related failures or incidents.
- Ensure warranty-related actions comply with regulatory and contractual obligations.
Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or related technical field.
- Experience in technical troubleshooting, system performance analysis, or warranty engineering.
- Ability to interpret and correlate large operational datasets.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities
- Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation discipline.
- Ability to manage multiple technical issues simultaneously.
Desired:
- 2-3+ years of experience in energy storage, renewables, power systems, or industrial power generation equipment.
- Direct exposure to BESS or power electronics systems strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of:
- Lithium-ion battery technologies (LFP, NMC)
- Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Experience supporting warranty claims and working directly with OEMs.
- Knowledge of performance guarantees (capacity, efficiency, availability, degradation).
- Familiarity with root cause analysis and reliability engineering methods.
- Proficiency in Excel (data analysis, trend evaluation).
- Experience with data tools (Python, SQL, Power BI, or similar) is a plus.
Working Conditions/Office Environment/Travel
- Remote, hybrid, or office-based with frequent collaboration with remote operations teams.
- 10–25% travel for site inspections, failure investigations, or vendor coordination.
- Occasional off-hours support for critical system events.
