The Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) leads enterprise procurement and supplier management strategy for Humana, overseeing end-to-end business engagement, sourcing, contracting, and supplier performance. Reporting to the SVP of Financial Planning & Analysis, this executive role is central to advancing enterprise priorities through cost leadership, resilient supply partnerships, innovation, and risk management.

               

As a strategic partner to the Enterprise Leadership Team, the CPO will help shape enterprise value creation through category strategy, supplier collaboration, digital enablement, and disciplined governance. This role has already delivered meaningful impact through sustained savings, supplier rationalization, and the elevation of procurement as a strategic enterprise capability.

With AI-enabled sourcing tools, faster intake and orchestration, and a newly established Enterprise Supplier Management Center of Excellence, Humana is positioned to take the function to its next stage. We are seeking a bold, business-minded leader who can build on this momentum and turn procurement and supplier management into a lasting competitive advantage.

The organization includes approximately 140 associates across onshore and offshore teams and manages roughly $6B in annual spend. Scope includes business engagement and category management, sourcing and contract management, supplier management for key enterprise services, and supplier governance.

The successful candidate will partner closely with senior leaders to deliver strong stakeholder experiences and measurable business outcomes. This leader will continuously identify opportunities to simplify, modernize, and elevate procurement to maximize enterprise value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Set and evolve enterprise procurement and supplier management strategy in line with business priorities, transformation goals, and long-term value creation.
  • Lead category management, sourcing, contracting, and supplier governance with strong enterprise rigor and accountability.
  • Advance digital procurement capabilities, including automation, AI, and analytics, to improve speed, visibility, and decision quality.

Executive Partnership

  • Partner with C-suite and business leaders to align procurement priorities with enterprise strategy, cost optimization, and transformation initiatives.
  • Represent procurement in senior leadership, committee, and external partner discussions as a trusted strategic advisor.

Risk, Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure strong frameworks for sourcing, contracts, supplier due diligence, risk management, and audit readiness in partnership with Legal, Finance, Technology, Privacy, and Enterprise Risk.
  • Anticipate and mitigate supplier, operational, and geopolitical risks that could affect business continuity or enterprise performance.

Supplier Performance and Value Creation

  • Lead strategic supplier relationships, performance management, and executive oversight to improve value, service, innovation, and resilience.
  • Negotiate complex commercial agreements with top-tier suppliers and drive measurable results beyond contract execution.

Operations and Capability Building

  • Build a high-performing, technology-enabled procurement organization with strong talent, scalable processes, and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Partner across Finance and the enterprise to strengthen value measurement, improve user experience, and support major strategic initiatives

Supplier Diversity and Sustainability

  • Embed responsible procurement practices, supplier diversity, and sustainability priorities into sourcing and supplier strategies in support of enterprise ESG goals.

Candidate Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

The ideal candidate is a proven enterprise leader with a strong record of driving measurable procurement and supplier management outcomes in large, complex organizations. This person brings executive presence, strategic judgment, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to simplify complexity while building high-performing teams.

The successful candidate will be an influential communicator and collaborative operator who uses data, insight, and sound judgment to drive decisions and results. They will inspire confidence across the enterprise, elevate procurement’s strategic profile, and lead with a clear vision for operational excellence and long-term value creation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, engineering, law, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive procurement, supplier management, or related operational leadership experience in large, complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior executives and leading through both authority and collaboration.
  • Strong experience in procurement transformation, digital enablement, and change leadership.
  • Deep expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier governance, negotiations, and enterprise risk management.
  • Track record of building talent, aligning stakeholders, and delivering financial and operational results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare or health insurance experience preferred.
  • Experience in a Fortune 100 or similarly complex enterprise environment.
  • MBA, advanced degree, or relevant certification such as CPSM or CIPS preferred.

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.
