Volunteer Events Coordinator

Opportunity Duration: Open-ended
Hours: Part-time (50% full-time equivalent)
Location: Home-based, with core availability during office hours in CET time zone
Travel: none
Reporting to: Language Access and Engagement Specialist
Remuneration: Volunteer (unpaid)

About CLEAR Global

CLEAR Global is a non-profit organisation that exists to help people get vital information and be heard, whatever language they speak. We work mostly on behalf of nonprofit partners providing language services, language research, and developing language technology for a linguistically inclusive world. To do this we have a global community of over 200,000 linguists who offer their time, energy and skills to address language inequality. This community translates millions of words of life-saving and life-changing information a year, supports vulnerable people with interpretation services, and engages in digital language development and advocacy. 

The Role

This volunteer role helps organize community events that bring together our two distinct communities of linguists from both CLEAR Global and the Tarjimly platform to work toward language justice. You will support in creating, planning and administering a variety of on-line events, making sure volunteers feel connected and engaged. You will continue the engagement and conversations through your work participating and moderating discussion forums after events. You will engage the global community, to help plan new activities that meet their interest area. 

Key Responsibilities

Event Organization Support

• Help with the practical tasks of running online events, such as community calls, webinars, and workshops.
• Provide administrative help to make sure that the events run smoothly, including supporting registration and participation .
• Help in the preparation of event materials such as PowerPoints and mural boards or using other on line presentation tools. 

Community Engagement & Post-Event Discussion

• Chat with community members in online forums after events to engage and develop the conversations about the topics that were raised. 
• Use systems to welcome new members and help them stay active in the conversation .
• Support spaces where volunteers can learn from each other and share their specific skills.
• Keep track of community activity to find ways to make the experience better for everyone.

Participatory Planning & Movement Building

• Work with our global community of linguists to find out what skills they might want to share and to learn, and what events they want to see next.
• Help identify where CLEAR Global and Tarjimly need to grow their community or increase community cohesion through new event ideas.
• Write down what we learn from our activities—including successes and challenges—to help the organization improve.

What we are looking for in candidates

Ideal qualification or skills 

• Experience in volunteer community organizing, movement building, or program work, ideally within an international nonprofit context.
• Skills in (co)facilitating participatory workshops or training with diverse audiences.
• Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and inspire individuals across different cultural backgrounds.
• Excellent written and spoken English; strong communication skills across various formats.
• An understanding of language rights, language barriers, or related social justice issues.
• Ability to work independently with high initiative while collaborating effectively across a virtual team.

Desirable skills, experience or qualifications

• Prior experience working in or with communities in the Global South.
• Proficiency in at least one additional language relevant to the regions where the movement is active.
• Familiarity with advocacy strategy development or campaign design.
