Produce mixed media videos by combining live action, photography, and animation for social-first formats. Manage the full editing lifecycle including scripting, storyboarding, color correction, and subtitling.
A Washington, DC-based strategic messaging firm is looking to engage an experienced Video Editor and Motion Designer in a part-time, remote, temporary role.
We’re looking for someone to start work in September or possibly early October 2026 and continue for at least six months. Also, there is the potential for the working relationship to continue well beyond six months. The employer will be looking to hire an Editor in the coming year, so this freelance engagement could lead to discussions about a full-time, staff position.
We expect the workload to be at least 20 hours/week, but there may be weeks during which the firm is seeking up to 30 hours of support. We are interested in hearing from experienced editors who are seeking consistent work anywhere in the 20 to 30 hours/week timeframe.
Applicants should be able to offer regular dayside availability. However, the person in this role will not be locked into specific working hours. This is an ideal opportunity for a full-time freelancer who is committed to supporting their own clients between 9am and 5pm each day, and is looking to add one more highly active client to their workflow.
Much of the work will be done in support of a specific corporate entity, the name of which we can share directly with the most well qualified applicants. Work will primarily include explainer videos and short videos/animations for social media.
Field production and camera experience isn’t required, but is considered a value-add. There will be opportunities to participate in local shoots.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Produce mixed media videos that combine live action footage, photography and animation
• Create engaging social-first videos in various formats (vertical/square/horizontal)
• Edit a variety of content to include: live action, multi camera, and iPhone footage
• 2D animated video production (incl. familiarity w/ expressions and plug-ins)
• Adapting downloadable animated templates as needed
• Scripting and storyboarding
• Generating proxy footage
• Basic color correction
• Subtitling
• Curating B-roll and music libraries
EXPECTED SOFTWARE PROFICIENCY:
• Adobe Premiere
• Adobe After Effects
• Adobe Illustrator
