Our work has received national and international recognition, including two Shortys, two Tellys, the DAfFNE, the NYT TV & Film award and the Environmental Media Award. We focus on investigative research, video essays, and documentaries for a curious, engaged audience that always seeks deeper answers.

About the role 

As Freelance Video Editor you will play a key role in bringing the long-form documentary content of fern to life. Working closely with our editorial & production team, you will shape the rhythm, tone, and visual quality of our videos from cut to final delivery. This is a remote, freelance position.

Key Responsibilities 

• Edit the voice-over to ensure a natural flow.

• Craft high-quality video edits.

• Research and source fitting footage.

• Apply color grading and correction where required.

• Add sound design for key moments.

• Stylize and optimize assets to match the visual language of each production.

• Incorporate sources into the edit.

• Optional: contribute original music composition.

Skills and experience 

• Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and the Creative Cloud suite.

• A strong sense of aesthetics and visual storytelling.

• Ability to work independently and reliably within a remote team.

• A genuine passion for documentary and educational content.

• Familiarity with fern, Simplicissimus, or similar documentary-led channels.

• Proficiency in German and English.
